Love can affect people in many ways and the consequences can range from good to even lethal. And in the play Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, a pair of star-crossed lovers whose love for each other lead them to their tragic deaths. For example, when Romeo is exiled to Verona, he overreacts and complains to the Friar. He says that being banished is just saying death by another name. He whines that he would rather die than not be with Juliet. Also, after Romeo is rejected by Rosaline, he thinks that there is no one else that can compare to her, even though he falls in love with Juliet shortly after. Another example of his over dramatic behavior was when Juliet heard news of Romeo’s banishment. She even thought that Romeo’s banishment was even worse than her cousin’s death.
Dramatic behavior is just one of the things that makes love turn into violence. This play also shows the effect love can have on someone’s decision. They both made many harmful choices because their love affected their ability to think wisely. An example of one of there terrible decisions was when Romeo bought the poison from an apothecary. He should have considered all of his options before deciding that he had to kill himself over that issue.

This theme also showed when Juliet said, “I long to die if what thou speak’st speak not of remedy.” (Shakespeare, Act IIII Scene 1) She said this to Friar Lawrence complaining that if he can’t find her a way out of marrying Paris, she will kill herself. This is significant because it shows how her love for Romeo made her think violently, even though she didn’t. Lastly, Juliet stabbing herself with Romeo’s dagger at the end of the play showed how being without Romeo was unthinkable for her.

This theme caused the tragic ending to the play Romeo and Juliet. The double suicide is also what ended the conflict between the two families and showed how love caused most of the violence that occurs in Romeo and Juliet. Lady Montague died of grieving for her banished son who she really loved, and Tybalt died because Romeo killed him out of rage from losing his best friend Mercutio.
