Integrity in today’s life is a huge but uncommon personality trait for someone to have. Integrity is when someone lives their life the best way that they can live it. In this life we live in today we face life decisions all the time that only we can decides to answer honestly. We choose how we run our lives and the way we run them is how we define ourselves as a human being. Integrity is always doing what is right compared to doing what is wrong even when no one else is looking. People have always had their pride and their integrity. Integrity means a lot to some people around us and then there is some people where it means nothing to them. The people that value their integrity the most are the good people in this world that care and then there are the opposite people who do not value their integrity due to the fact that they do not care.
Some people are defined by his or her integrity and personality. A person’s integrity is measured by how honest they are and their ability to maintain their moral ethics. Peoples beliefs can range from the higher religious beliefs to a person’s stance on how our government is doing to whether or not they think it’s rude to spit on the sidewalk. Keeping your integrity intact is important to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and becoming a strong individual. Integrity is defined in the dictionary as “The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness.”
My definition of integrity is to do the right thing even when no one is looking and to be honest no matter what it is about and honor your personality values and morals ethics. Having integrity makes you a better person and helps you have a healthy life style. As humans it is easy for us to be tempted to do the wrong things such as lie, cheat, and steal but why is it that we do these things. Well that is because it is the easy route we chose to take. As humans we have become lazy people who look for the easy way out so we can try to make money then we lie to protect ourselves or we try to fix what we messed up. We cheat to make our lives easier. That’s why we can’t trust anyone because we know what everyone is capable of doing. We ask questions like what is wrong with people? Can I trust my friends? Questions like that can be avoided if people had integrity and just told the truth and if they honored their word or if they did the right thing all the time and not be corrupted by others that lack a quality trait such as integrity.
That is what makes our society work because without it we would have an anarchy. Basic human decisions is what helps us live in a good world. Of course, it is not perfect but those who choose to live their lives with good morals and integrity are the ones who make it a better place for everybody else. Nobody forces us to do anything we don’t want to do and that is the point. Our personal integrity can be formed and shaped by one person only which is ourselves. Some people try to sway it and they do almost daily, but no one can change it unless we allow them to do so.
As a Marine Integrity is one of our Military core values it means to do the right thing all the time even when no one is looking and even when you are not at work. This makes you become a better person because you are in a way forced to do the right thing when no one is looking even though in boot camp they tell you that someone is always looking which in a way is true you might not know it but whenever you feel like you can get away with something someone will tell on you or call you out for not having the integrity to do the right thing and then you will look like a bad Marine for not honoring your integrity.
In the world today certain levels of integrity are expected in different places. Important problems in the world that pertains to integrity is talked about in the Bible and viewing integrity as a choice and in current affairs. The Bible has many lessons on integrity that we as people do not know about. Proverbs 11:1 says “Dishonest scales are an abomination to the LORD, but a just weight is His delight.” Absolute integrity is a delight to the Lord.
As a choice we are free to decide whether or not we should live a lifestyle of integrity or not. I find integrity to be a very important part of life especially around my friends and family where I can set a real example. Who needs integrity? Everyone needs integrity. Integrity is one simple word that effects how the world is ran it is also more than just a decision, it is a life choice. That is why our leaders of today and tomorrow need to step up and raise the standard. After all Charles Simmons once said, “Integrity is the first step to true greatness.”
Generally speaking, the stronger one holds to their morals the more positively they are expected to maintaining who they are. After all, if a person gives up on their beliefs, they are basically giving up on who they are and what made them who they are. Situations are known to arise that challenge a person’s integrity. For example, a junior Marine may be asked to take charge of a task instead of letting his fellow peers like he had wanted to. Supposedly the team building, and comradery is the reason this Marine joined the military and refusing the request can result in sever punishments. Hypothetically does the junior Marine take charge and complete the task at hand or does he just insist on letting someone else take charge of the task? The result of that Marines decision determines whether or not they value their job or their passion more.
To some the respectable decision is to keep to a passion and blossom as a person. For others giving up on a job because you couldn’t do what you wanted to is idiotic and redundant. However, such challenges do in fact test a people’s integrity. Should the junior Marine take charge of the task they were told to do, or do they sacrifice a level of integrity and pass the task off to someone else. You can measure how reasonable the loss is by figuring out if the accomplishment the task outweighs the loss of integrity.
Keep in mind the purpose of integrity is a person’s personality. The lack of integrity can always come across like a lack of someone’s values and moral ethics. Maybe someone should consider someone who sells out might lack a little bit of life. Maybe they seem empty or perhaps giving up on your beliefs in order to accomplish a greater goal is damaging to the soul. In my opinion it is better to maintain one’s integrity belief than it is to seek some kind of end game. When the day is over, and your decisions have been made do you feel whole? Are you proud of who you are? Are you content with the things you’ve done and the reasons you had to do them?
So, I have figured out that integrity is an important part of everyone’s life. Without a basic, standard guide line for human integrity, we are animals. Having integrity is what defines how we run our lives, and who we are. Are we good people? When we try to answer that question you first tend to look at the integrity, we have in ourselves but in a life and death situation a person’s personality will always be defined by his integrity based off of their decisions.
