Hunger in America can be shown throughout the society in the televisions, articles, magazines, radios, pantries, and much more where people can see hunger is happening. The thing is that hunger in society can be invisible to the common eye as just a thing in the world that is happening now, even if they live right beside it or see a person in poverty where he or she cannot fulfill their health in streets such as in big cities, as for example in New York or in the whole world where it is just a pity to not help even a little by so many people all around. These things are happening all the time when people are not getting the food necessary to have a stable health their bodies, for example of buying and having foods that are just too oily and basic where families have to stretch from their wallets for unhealthy foods due to economic issues. This can also include by how, especially to younger children who are developing in their structural body and mental capacities to learn can be affected due to lack of food. The point is that hunger is a concern to be addressed as it leads to health issues, conveys changes in social definition, and affects education.

To start it, there are many things that hunger can affect the human body, for example, one of the most important things would be the human health, where hunger can affect health issues. Hunger can easily create health issues through malnutrition. One of the examples would be from undernutrition, where besides from not getting enough vitamins, energy, and delays for growing as for example young children, being from not being able to eat enough. This also includes overnutrition, where there is also malnutrition from obesity, where oneself does not eat the necessary foods for a healthy body from, for example, by eating just foods that are cheap to buy as meals that are filled with glucose and oily fats, where it can make several health issues. One of the examples would be the creation of chronic malnutrition, which would be from the lack of nutrition the body needs to sustain itself over a long period of time. Just as said in World Hunger News, “ When a person has hunger for a sustained period of time, he or she can develop malnutrition, either mild or severe, depending on one’s body needs and food intake.”, in “Hunger and Nutrition Facts – World Hunger Education” by World Hunger Education Service. This is also shown in “Obesity and Overweight” by World Health Association, “Changes in dietary and physical activity patterns are often the result of environmental and societal changes associated with development and lack of supportive policies in sectors such as health, agriculture, transport, urban planning, environment, food processing, distribution, marketing, and education.”. Which both sources can conclude that underweight and obesity can cause several health issues by not intaking what is needed for the human body to be healthy.

This would carry directly to how social definitions take over the form of how cities over their own societies and how social issues as hunger are being dealt with by actual people who are suffering from hunger. This would be by how since the great depression, private food banks and food pantries have grown over the years, as largely the nation has provided foods that are being sent and donated to families in need for food, where poverty levels have decreased to an income of $10,610 for a family of four. Thus, including by how families are being found to be helped by many more ways than before with the increasing of societies realizing the number of people in both urban and rural areas that hunger still exists in our population. This would also include by how some people portray social Darwinistic thoughts over how it is the people itself who are supposed to fix hunger themselves, which is selfish of one’s self and how people also misunderstand the meanings of what is being hungry and of what is being in hunger in the society. For example as shown in magazine article by New York Times writer Joseph Lelyveld “Hunger In America ; The Safety Net Has Shrunk But It’s still in Place”, “Latter-day social Darwinists, while not exactly denying the possibility of hunger in America, imply that those who fail to eat adequately are themselves to blame for their own ignorance or indifference to the nutritional needs of their families.” and “Malnutrition is a clinical state, readily gauged by physicians. Hunger is described by health experts as ”subclinical” – that is, subjective, necessarily gauged in the first instance by the hungry.”

For these reasons, the communities throughout America have understood that hunger is being fixed but have a far way to go to have the support and the importance of people in the nations social definitions. This view by the people gets more specific by how it turns into the matter of children of families who are getting affected by learning in school through hunger, where education can get affected. This can be concluded by how hunger can decrease the way a child can think and learn during classwork assignments where mentally can be deteriorated by not being able to get the food necessary to develop a more completed form of the brain to think, where long-term chronic malnutrition can deteriorate and delay the development of the mind in children. This would also include with the changing of concentration of learning into the need to eat from hunger. All of this is supported by and is included by Our Community Food Bank in the article “The Link Between Learning And Child Hunger In America” states “Low-income children that come to school hungry have lower scores on standardized tests than low-income children that arrive at school well-fed.”. This can also be supported by how not many students get to achieve dreams in college as stated in “Hunger In America” by Manna Food Bank, “An estimated 67 percent of all clients have attained a high school degree or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or more, and an estimated 26 percent of all clients have post-high school education (including license or certification, some college, or a four-year degree).”

All of these sources state how staying healthy is a key component in students when talking about having a good education. In the end, hunger can affect entire lives of people who are not taking the right diet and meals of which they are supposed to have a healthy life and human body. For example, health issues can be foreseen if being in malnutrition for a long-term, especially when it forms into a complete form of undernutrition or overnutrition when in lacking nutrients and lack of a balanced diet adequate for yourself. Second, how the people and peers around you acknowledge the effects of hunger in the society and how most are trying to improve the community and trying to understand what is hunger. Lastly, how hunger can have a major impact on the learning efficiency and future of students while learning and having assignments where critical thinking and concentration levels from the brain are needed. For which all conclude by how the society has to be addressed by and concerned about the reality of hunger in people’s lives.
