The date is August 16th and Elvis Presley has just finished some work for tour, setting aside the rest of the day to rest before his concert the next day in Portland, Maine. Ginger Alden rushes to the phone after finding her boyfriend, Elvis Presley, unconscious on the bathroom floor. The time in Paramedics and ambulances quickly show up to the scene only to pronounce the King of Rock and Roll dead about 30 minutes later.
On August 16th, 1977, Elvis Aaron Presley passed away due to many reasons causing heart failure (Chan, 2017). This came as a shock to many as their favorite rock singer has passed away. However, many of his fans have discovered intriguing information that draws them towards suspecting that he faked his death. They believe he is still alive, living in peace and privacy. Many Elvis fans believe he faked his death because of the misspelling on his gravestone, apparent Elvis sightings, and his connections with the FBI.
Some people believe Elvis covered up his death because of his middle name being misspelled on his tombstone. Born on January 8th, 1935, Elvis was given the middle name, Aron after his dead twin brother, Jesse Garon Presley (Lacy, 2009). However, when Elvis’ tombstone was captured and released to the public, fans noticed that something was off; his middle name was spelled wrong. On the tombstone, Aron was spelled Aaron causing many rumors and theories that his family had purposefully spelt it this way as a way to hint onto the fans that Elvis was still alive (Lacy, 2009). Fans speculated around this information, as many people own signed posters and albums where he uses Aron. Other fans claim Elvis wanted to change his name towards the middle of his life to express it the way it is written in the Bible (Lacy, 2009).
In addition, there are many conspiracies around evident Elvis sightings. For the past 42 years, fans have claimed to see people out and about that could possibly be Elvis Presley. The most popular sighting was at the Memphis Airport, shortly after the announced death of Elvis Presley. Apparently this man had similar characteristics to Elvis and used the name Jon Burrows, the name Elvis used when reserving hotels (Wikipedia, 2019). Intrigued, many people did their research to either confirm or deny this information. However, the information falls short when we learn that the man was supposedly on his way to South America. Patrick Lacy says, “There were no international tickets sold at the Memphis Airport in August 1977,” (Lacy, 2009).
After the airport conspiracy, many more therioes continued to pop up. Apparently, Elvis was at their local grocery store, taking a stroll through their town, and even appearing in movies. After the 1990 film, Home Alone, was released, many suspected that Elvis was one of the backround characters during the airport scene where an argument is breaking out between Kate McCallister and an airport employee (Wikipedia, 2019). This backround character had a black beard and similar face shape to Elvis causing fans to add evidence into their speculations around Elvis’ fake death. Kenny Bidle, a paranormal researcher brought into the debate, found the actor to be Gary Richard Grott, a friend of the producer of Home Alone, Chris Columbus (Wikipedia, 2019).
Finally, people have noted Elvis’ apparent connections with the FBI. Author and researcher, Gail Brewer-Giorgio, has done many days worth of research to come up with a theroy on why Elvis could have been connected to the FBI (Chan, 2017). After flipping through numerous FBI files, she released her theroy convincing many fans that Elvis had to fake his death in order to save himself. She found that Elvis could have been approached by the FBI to secretly help investigate a group of criminals named, “The Fraternity”. Apparently the FBI had heard a rumor that Elvis had communicated with a member from the Fraternity during a plane purchase and they wanted his help (Chan, 2017). Once the Fraternity found out about this, they were out to get Elvis and that is why he wanted to fake his death.
The death of Elvis Presely was very devistating to thousands, if not millions of people. It came as a shock to all, espicially after the speculations that he faked his death. His mispelled middle name, apparent sightings, and possible connections with the FBI led numerous fans to question what is fact and what is false behind his death. Whether these theories actually uncover hidden facts around Elvis’ death, or are a dream of a devastated fan, Elvis was an extremely talented man whose legacy and life are still mourned today, 42 years after his death.
