When my Grandpa was 3 years old, Pearl Harbor was bombed by the Japanese Navy Air Service (JNAS). It was a military strike. Oh no! My Grandpa’s PerspectiveMy Grandpa said “There was nothing for me to do besides go under the house”, then he said “My babysitter took my there with some rice crisps, 8 bottles of water, and a extra pair of clothes, just in case it would be a long bombing. I went in a bathtub with the 3 survival sources they gave me. My babysitter grabbed 2 mattresses. She found a gun and shot 10 holes in each so I could breathe.”
He paused for a minute or so then said, “I never saw my parents until 8 days later.” My Grandfather said those words with care as if they died, but they didn’t. His parents stayed in the basement with the gun the whole way through. Gladly they survived but a few days later they died of old age.Who, What, When, Where, and Why?The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Their plan was to be awake early in the morning so it would be a surprise attack.
First, it was meant to destroy important American fleet units, thereby preventing the Pacific Fleet from interfering with Japanese conquest of the Dutch East Indies and Malaya and to enable Japan to conquer Southeast Asia without interference The bombing was early in the morning, a little before 8 am, on December 7, 1941.
It was near the U.S. Naval base because they wanted to strike where all the weapons where. I think they wanted to bomb Pearl Harbor early in the morning because the new that they weren’t going to be awake. What happened? The first bombing was early in the morning, about 7:55 AM. The problem was that these were all air strikes so you would only hear the planes and bombs when they drop. In total, 2,403 Americans died and 1,178 got hurt. Eighteen ships were sunk or run aground, including five battleships.
All of the Americans killed or wounded during the attack were non-combatants, given the fact there was no state of war when the attack occurred. The Japanese government decided to attack Pearl Harbor after the United States cut off the US oil transports to Japan in the summer of 1941. Japan relied on the United States for 80% of its oil, and without US oil supplies its navy wouldn’t be able to function.
The bombing of Pearl Harbor is important to the US because it led to WWII. Just remember how sad and depressing, even surprising, when the first bomb dropped. Who didn’t even know that it was going to kill them. That day was sad for everyone even the people who didn’t live in that time because you need to put yourself in someone else’s shoes. He said that was probably the most shocking thing in my life. I am just glad many people survived including me in Hawaii.
