Abstract
Presented here is a letter written to the newspaper as well as, a letter I can and may send to a governor. We can all agree that when it comes to equal rights throughout an education system there is most certainly lack thereof. When trying to reconstruct equal rights throughout the school systems, it is in everyone’s best interest that we look at it from a holistic integrated approach.
There are several aspects of equality in the world that are central to the purpose of education. Having equal rights throughout the education system will naturally come with other areas of equality for example, equality of respect and recognition, equality of power within different cultures, equality of love, care and over all acceptance. There are a handful of changes that need to be made within the education system in order for it to be completely equal for every student. Some educational equalities may include social class, and we argue for deserting messy group policies, challenging power of parents in this situation and making the testing and assessment system within the school system more wide range therefore it will test a bigger range of a human’s intelligence.
Another aspect we argue is within the respect and being recognizable, we argue that different cultures need to be better regulated throughout the school system better. Different race, cultures and ethnicities within our schooling systems are not well managed or are hardly even recognized as an issue at most schools. The culture gap between educators and students still exists, which can leave several students feeling under appreciated for the hard work they are doing.
Introduction
The debate and argument on educational inequality is closely concentrated on how to completely grasp true equalization access and involvement among different levels of social groups. Inequities among education systems specially disadvantage many of the country’s districts where there are low-income students; students of color, students with disabilities, and English language learners make up a big amount of the population. Educational equity will provide each and every child proper, resources, teachers, interventions, and support they need in order for them to succeed.
The main component is to created an overall holistic approach to reach that complete equality in order to have real unbiased institutions around America. Individuals believe that if equality is to happen within the education system we definitely need to be aware that it needs to be a complete integrated relationship that takes educations, economic, political and cultural systems within in our society into consideration. The world we live in today is very demanding of the younger generations to come. Students all over the world are in constant competition for schools, colleges, jobs etc. therefore we must make sure each student has a fair fighting chance to bloom.
Inequalities in Love, Caring and Acceptance
Regarding the inequalities in the love, caring and acceptance aspect we address that there needs to be more admiration coming from the educator himself or herself. When we have very educated teachers who, at the same time, are showing and teaching the emotional side that comes into play when teaching, the success level in a student will surely sky rocket. Emotional skills will forever play a huge role in one’s life and when children are provided with an educator who is a positive healthy mentor that genuinely cares about different children within different cultures or ethnicity this can lead to have an outlasting positive impact on children.
These teachers who hold this type of teaching position allow that space for a teacher-child relationship to grow stable and to be genuine. Teachers can build rapport with a child, which gives concerning space if a child is ever in need such as, if a child is getting emotional, physically, and sexually abused or being neglected by the guardian figure in their life. Being a human being we need to balance a lot of different aspects in our live such as emotional, mental and physically health. This applies to children too. Children are people too and have a lot more going on within them than we know.
Yes, children are learning and growing therefore the areas of mental, emotional and physical health are not fully developed, which is an even more reason to be aware they need to be guided in the best way they can in order for the child’s emotional, mental and physical health to flourish. Teachers in the education system, especially in the elementary stages of child development, need to be able to recognize and point out if there is something off about a child in their classroom. Teachers themselves need to be engaged with their students in more aspects of their lives than just the school aspect.
Teachers need to make more of a conscious effort to truly understand who these children are as people in order to guide them to the best of their abilities. Each child is their own individual and they are all different therefore educators need to understand that learners are not all going to be the same. Children cannot help what they are born into that is something far from anyone’s control. When a child is not being cared for or guided properly outside of the education system this will show once they enter the schooling system but in order to take proper action and help the situation we need teachers who are properly trained in both the teaching side and emotional side of personal growth you gain from education.
Inequalities in Respect, Resources and Recognition
There are no questions asked that every individual is entitled to equal human rights within their society. This specifically means that it is about establishing a way so that every individual has the likelihood to have a fair life. Some factors that play a part into having a “fair life,” include having the appropriate respect, resources, and recognition. This does not just mean in obvious economic forms but also in social and cultural capital forms, for example, family, social network connections, and educational achievement. Everyone among our society should be respected and recognized in a way that shows they are appreciated and accepted for being who they are.
The majority should not just tolerate people who fall in the minority group because they view the world differently from them or practice different ways of living. Several people within our society are disrespected and are not picked out in the crowd based on age, sexuality, gender, religious beliefs, disability, language, class, race or ethnicity. This is because there is a failure to accommodate differences in schools, which creates inequality in resources. Our education systems must compensate for these inequities by helping level the playing filed and empowering children to rise above their birth circumstance. These inequalities are deeply rooted in the realm of communication and interpretation.
Inequalities in the Cultural Aspect
Culture plays a big role in the inequality within the school systems. Most students in the school systems have majority white upscale teachers and these teachers are so unaware to the fact that they are making these young children of different cultures and ethnicity feel inferior to them. They can easily be making these students of different cultures and backgrounds feel like what they are taught in their home or from their parents is wrong and not allowed in the school system. This then leads to these children feeling at complication and being stuck in between their true culture and the way they are “supposed to act” at school.
The failure these schools have in not acknowledging these cultural barriers that are going on in the classroom fail to properly guide our children in the right direction. Educators need to educate themselves and expand their own knowledge and be more open and willing to learn of other cultures in order to guide any child of said culture that comes across their way. When educators are in understanding of a students culture they are less likely to misinterpret the behavior of a child or less like likely to inaccurately judge students as poorly behaved or as a poor student / poor work ethic.
Most schooling systems are biased towards uniformity over diversity. It is obvious that sameness is easier to accommodate than difference, which is why there are very few teaching models that accommodate both educational values and diversity values. While schools having a biased towards uniformity this will always lead to a disadvantage for students whose cultures have taught them beliefs and behaviors that fall from the norm.
Conclusion
A student’s early child development is very crucial to their young adult and older adult stages in life. Children are in school for a long span of their life; therefore we need proper quality school institutions. We need systems with teachers who are genuine and who can create that emotional space for a student-teacher relationship, institutions where every resource is disturbed equally no matter the ethnicity, culture, race, gender, sexuality, or age so that there is a fair fighting chance for a child to be respected and recognized.
Lastly, systems that have educators and policies that take into consideration a child’s culture and norms for their culture in order to guide the student how they need to be guided so they can best understand. Others have no right to tell a young child that their culture is not welcomed at school. This behavior of an adult towards a child can be taken as degrading a child’s full potential. Everyone is entitled to education and equality no matter how different people are, especially the children of the world.
