When I go into New York City on a crisp autumn morning and bring a few pieces of charcoal, a watercolor kit and a sketchbook, the urban atmosphere stimulates my creativny and natural Inner urge to design particularly fashion designs. My floor is often strewn With anything from a detailed sketch of a chiffon dress to a quick outline drawn on a paper napkin. While I am considering fashion design as a vocation, I realize that the consummation of that dream will best be served by various factors outside of the World of art and design. I had considered attending a fine arts school. However, my viewpoint has changed dramatically.
Developing my whole self as an integrated, well-rounded, well-educated human being will be more important to career success than focusing on arts exclusively. A broad range of liberal arts subjects may present new sets of possibilities for me through related or even completely different areas of study. When I Visited the university, I considered a different way I might eventually integrate my love of the arts into a unique career. The psychology curriculum interests me tremendously. In any aspect of the arts, whether in fashion or the fine arts, the understanding of human motivation and the human psyche Will be a critical element for success. Colors, textures, and designs make people feel, behave and relate to their environments in different ways.
A better understanding of human behavior Will help me in any career, not just a fashion career. Ive thought of Wanting to become a psychotherapist. Art therapy is an example of how I might integrate my love of art and my fascination With psychology into a career. At the university. I found an environment that radiates strong academic purpose and is located in one of our nations richest centers of history. I fell in love With the cultural diversity of the city, the idea of living in an environment.

Where I can walk or take the trolley down XVZ Avenue and see it much as it was when my mother was an XYZ undergraduate, then walk to the library and read about the rich cultural history of the city excites me. The Historic XVZ area, XYZ, XYZ and even the XYZ are places which fill my mothers memories. Id like them to fill my memories as well. In the XYZ Gardens with the famous XYZ Boats that XYZ author wrote of in a book I read as a child, my watercolors and charcoal will have a place by my side as they did in New York, but I will be inspired by a vastly different type of urban environment. To have access to the Museum of Fine Arts, the Institute of Contemporary Art, and the Harvard University Art Museums while I study a broad, liberal arts curriculum at my mothers Alma Mater would be a privilege that would enrich my life. I am filled with excitement at the prospect of enrolling at XYZ University.
