The story is about the relationship between animals and human beings. It celebrates the bond of compassion and trust that exist between a man, Chuck Hooper and his loyal dog, Duke.
Hooper was a successful sales man and a loving husband. He and his wife Marcy were really excited to add a dog to their household. They finally brought a Doberman and named him Chuck. The three lived a quite cozy life in harmony and live. All seemed promising for the Hoopers.
But soon tragedy strikes as Hooper suffers a car accident. He is hospitalized and eventually losses his ability to move or walk. This crushes Hooper and throws the whole family in troubled and difficult times. The wife had to work as Hooper’s is unable to and Duke is sent to a domestic care house. Hooper fell in to a depression lying motionless in his wheelchair all day. To kill his boredom, Duke returned. But this did not cheer Hooper who was still devastated by his circumstance. He did not recover any movement even after hours of physical therapy.
However, another miracle happened and it was for the better this time around. One day Chuck threw a leash on Duke and encouraged him to move. Once Duke strolled ahead Duke moved a few steps too, aided by the pull. This brought a new sense of optimism for the whole family. Hooper, his wife and Duke began anew and joint effort to restoring their home. Chuck improved gradually and with the help of Duke could walk with little limitation.
Soon Hooper was able to visit his office and return to work. In few months he was promoted and moved to a new place. The new neighbors were startled to see Hooper being dragged by his dog but they did not know the entire back-story so Hooper did not mind.
However, another accident occurred and this time Duke did not make it. Hooper mourned his loss but dedicated his sadness into his work and soon got another promotion. While accepting his accolades he remembered his old pal Duke and thanked him for his generosity, loyalty and faith.
