For 71 years, different versions of this story were created. It all began in 1945. That’s when the success of Chicago Cubs baseball players played the fourth match in the World Series, and their opponent was Detroit Tigers.Athletes from Chicago needed a victory in two of four consecutive meetings. William Sianis, nicknamed ‘Billy Goat’ and the owner of ‘Billy Goat Tawern’, a great fan of the Chicago Cubs team, decided to watch this meeting. He bought two admission tickets and took with him a goat named Murphy. He was supposedly let into the stadium, but other fans complained that ‘goat stinks’ and Sianis was asked to leave the stadium.Apparently, when he was indignant at leaving Wrigley Field, he muttered under his breath: ‘Cubs will never win again.’

A telegram of similar content was sent to the then owner of Philip K. Wrigley’s stadium: ‘You will lose in the World Series and you will never win the World Series again because you have insulted my goat.’ In the second version of the curse is maintained that Sianis stated that the Chicago Cubs will enter the World Series, but they will never win. According to his nephew from the second generation, Bill Sianis, this version is real.’The curse is still working,’ he said. ‘We’re trying to do everything to turn the curse away and we’ll be very happy if they win,’ says Bill Sianis, whose family continues to run the popular ‘Billy Goat’ tavern. At the beginning of this month, the Greek family Sianis organized a charity event under the slogan ‘Reverse the curse.’ In fact, in 1950, the curse author himself William Sianis wrote a letter to the stadium owner regarding the removal of the curse in exchange for an apology for his goat.P. K. Wrigley sent it, but it did not change the Cubs’ fate. Other methods have been tried for years, but none have been effective.Resentful fans tried their own, bloody and often illegal methods.

On the pedestal of the stadium, once unidentified perpetrators hanged a skinned goat corpse, and a few years later cut off the head of an animal. These methods have also proved to be ineffective. In 1984, before the match of the opening of the new MLB league season, even a goat parade was organized. In 2012, five fans along with a few months old goat, named Wrigley, set off from Arizona to Chicago. The main purpose of the journey was to cancel the curse.Did not help. The fans, however, did not stop thinking about the cancellation of the curse.A year ago, the famous ‘Littleton the Goat’ was let into the stadium. But only this year turned out to be a breakthrough. The first Chicago Cubs victory in the National League for 71 years and the promotion of a baseball team from North Chicago to the World Series, on Saturday October 22, over 300,000 people were celebrating. The city, waiting for the first championship since 1908, took the colors of the team.
