In the Golden age, there is a myth called Sophocle’s Oedipus the king which is written around 429 B.C.E. The Golden age is introducing religious conflict and also scientific. The exact time that the story was written, is not clear at all. This myth is count as the masterpiece left from the ancient Greek.

Oedipus is the prince of Corinth, and he has a fate thinking that he will kill his father and married his mother. After he leaves his country, Oedipus able to attack the ridding Sphinx, and he later becomes the king of Thebes. Oedipus married to the Queen of Thebes name Jocasta. Oedipus cruise about the death of the old king Laius, and he promise to find out the murderer.

Oedipus needs help from Tiresias, the famous mystery teller. Tiresias denies telling the trust of Oedipus. Later Tiresias decides to tell Oedipus that he is the only one who kills king Laius. Oedipus gets mad at Tiresias and he tries to insult him. Oedipus asks Jocasta how does Laius die. Jocasta tells him every situation, and Oedipus is stunning because the happening is very similar to his journey to Thebes. Oedipus heir a messager to find about his real identity, later he found out that he is adopted by the king of Corinth.

There are three main characters in this myth such as Oedipus, Jocasta, and Tiresias. First, Oedipus is an intelligent man because he can perforate the Sphinx. He was abandoned by his parents because they believe Oedipus will kill his father and married his mother. Oedipus is a perfect king because of he willing to do things for his people and his country. Second, Jocasta is the queen of Theban, and she is a wife both Laius and Oedipus. She is a great woman because she always tries to calm her husband. Even she knows the future of her son, she decides to abandon her child rather than killing him. Tiresias is the one who can predict the future, and she also provides real information for people to be ready.

In conclusion, The news upset Jocasta because she married her son Oedipus, and Oedipus did kill his father. Unfortunately, Jocasta decides to suicide herself. Oedipus shame what he has done to his parents, then he uses pins of his mother’s dress as a tool to blind himself.

In my opinion, there are two facts that we should learn from Sophocles’s Oedipus the King. First, people willing to anything to protect someone they love. The same as Oedipus, he fears this fate that he will hurt his parents one day. He uses many solutions to get rid of his fate. In real life, we tend to sacrifice our time, money or even ourselves to make sure the one we love is safe. Second, people cannot change their future. People should learn to live the life that they have every day because we do not know the next day, we can breathe or not.
