When finishing high school, my future plans were a complete blur, I wasn’t sure where or what I should endeavor in. I decided to attend a community college near me, so I could find the career path that complimented my skills, passions, and curiosity. I started with taking GE and Pre-Nursing courses. I had always been interested in Nursing, as I wanted a career where it was constantly challenging, captivating and impacting people’s lives daily. I absolutely fell in love with the study of the human body and I am strongly passionate about helping and caring for others, making a difference daily.
Nursing isn’t an easy career. I saw this first hand with my Grandmother, mother and older sister being bedside nurses. I saw how extremely mentally, physically and emotionally tiring it is. Nurses are in charge of another human beings’ life, those patients, and their families are in their lowest moments and are looking at this nurse for help. As a nurse, everyone, and everything comes before yourself. For example, the doctors, the patients, their families, and work needs are set at a higher priority than oneself. Not to mention nursing is a very strenuous job, with having to work on your feet continuously, working 12 hour days, and having to use endless knowledge constantly.
Some may read those cons and think nursing sounds absolutely horrifying. However, when I read that I see between the lines. I look at everything nurses do for others, how they desire to help others regardless of the cons. I look at nurses to be one of the most trusted careers, as they put others before themselves, working endless hours at a patients bedside, doing anything and everything for them and their health. It is a respected career path where you save and touch lives daily. You are able to bring happiness to individuals and their families when they are at their lowest moments. You are the reason for the comfort of those in need.
I self reflected to see if this career path was a fit for me. I am an empathetic, compassionate, and strong-willed person with a powerful urge to help others. I have good communication skills, I pay close attention to detail, I uphold emotional stability, empathy and interpersonal skills. The thought of helping patients and their families through these tough and distressing times is tremendously gratifying and fulfilling to me. With watching my grandmother, mother and sister as nurses, I see the happiness, pride and satisfaction they feel everyday by getting the opportunity to help people in need. This has ignited a strong attraction and interest in the nursing field. From a young age, I knew that nursing was the career I was destined to do.
After I realized that nursing was the perfect fit for me, I became industrious, working extremely hard to do good in my GE and Pre-Nursing classes. I knew I made the right decision when my nursing classes were continually keeping my interest, exciting me, challenging me and teaching me new things everyday that made me exceptionally thrilled and eager for my future in Nursing. I just recently found out that I have been excepted into a BSN Nursing program. I know nursing is the right path for me and I am ecstatic to start my career as a nurse. I can’t wait to start school, learning more about this prodigious career that I would soon be joining. I am applying for this scholarship with the hopes to help pay for my nursing school. I believe I am a great candidate as I am strong willed, exceptionally passionate, and full of desire for my future as a nurse.
