This movie is significantly different from any other Marvel sequel that had been released before. Even before it been released, the hype and cultural footprint is already enormous. Mainly represent the black people, this movie shows that what it means to be black in both America and Africa and more broadly, in the world. Rather than dodging the racial and identity cards, the movies openly touch the issues affecting the modern black life. Even Ryan Coogler himself said that this movie tackles another important genre which is “Superhero films that deal with issues of being of African descent”.

So through out the movie, there is so many emotional that involve. At the very beginning of the movie, we have a doubt since it is a production of Marvel, so an epic opening scene is expected. Meanwhile for this movie, the opening scene is about the origin of the Wakanda and how it united the four tribe. Also about the royalty family issues. It still, however, pick our interest on how does actually Wakanda region looks like and what is up with the royalty of Wakanda. The storyline then become more and more interesting as the tension build up from the characters. At this point of the movie, we are very amazed by the graphic scenery and the director vision on the high advanced technology based city looks like. We are also entertain by the humour that is in the movie. It is a great additional in between the intense mood of the movie. As an overall, we are really amazed by the culture, cinematic view and also the technology portrays in this movie. The first post-credits scene also leave us with satisfaction as it shows how we should not disregard what the African have and we should be more open without being racist.

There are few issues and problems that can be seen in this movie. The first dominant issue that arise is on the challenging power structure. T’Challa as the leader of Wakanda, and there are many people who want him out of power, first with M’Baku and also with Killmonger. T’Challa faces great challenges to his authority from his own friends and allies W’Kabi and Nakia. But there are also huge examples of this phenomenon in the film. As king, Killmonger attempts to win the Western-dominated world order and the structures that oppress black people worldwide. Although, the fact that most of these challenges come from adversaries, upsetting power structures is ultimately cast in a positive light by the film. T’Challa actively challenges and reforms the traditions of his ancestors to help the world. This can be related to the topic of organizational structure which means that there need to be a balance between teamwork and information sharing.

The second issue is Tradition vs. Modern. Black Panther finds the nation of Wakanda at a unpredictable moment in its history. There are clashes of old and new thinking, from Shuri’s mocking of the coronation ceremony goes to Nakia and Okoye’s explosive argument of loyalty to Killmonger. Wakanda grows more and more technologically advanced by the year, but the country still governed by hereditary monarchy although the rest of the world already go towards build democracy. Wakandans hold on to their traditions because they have come to believe these institutions which keep them safe from the outside world. But unfortunately these institutions only leaves Wakanda vulnerable outside incursion. Killmonger agressively changes Wakanda’s position on isolation and also threatening Wakanda’s way of life. T’Challa trying to strike a balance between preserving the old ways and effectively leading Wakanda into the future. This can be relate to the topic of communication. Where a process by which information is transmitted and understand between two or more people.

The third issue is conflicting identities. There is a tension in the very notion of being African-American because to be black on some level means being not totally accepted as an American by much of society. They cannot reject this identity because it has been brought within the history. This tension is mainly on Killmonger’s character, who quite literally has two name of identities. His very identity is at war with itself so he is filled with contempt for both the African about his hatred toward T’Challa and Wakandans and the American of his attempt to bring down the west country in aspects of his own identity. N’Jobu, is far more secure in his African identity and so he being able to find peace in death even though he was murdered by his own biological brother. The topic that can be related to this issue is conflicting & negotiation where one party perceives that its interest are being opposed or negatively affected by another party.

The last issue is the West’s views of Africa. Analysed from a post-colonial perspective, we can see some conflicting images in this movie. On the one hand, it shows a proud and self-reliant African people who stand out from normal depictions of black life in American film. While the other things, it has been described by some critics as embodying the perspective of colonialism. Certainly they really aware of the Western gaze on Africa and is willing to critique it, for example, the depiction of Ross’s casual disrespect to the Wakandans, Klaue’s use of the word “savages” and the U.N. diplomat’s dismissal of T’Challa’s proclamation. Wakanda likely to be the highly advanced technologically country, while still battle with infighting among tribal structures, with mortal combat for determining leadership. An image of Africa as the dark continent which Westerners made it out to be in early colonial stereotypes rather than strong scientifically inclined and prosperous society. The movie seems to show us the balanced of black empowerment and concepts that are safe for white viewing, leaving critique of colonialism. This can be relate to the topic of perception & learning in organization. It involve the process of receiving information about and making sense of the world around us. Same as the thought of Africa based on the West Perception.

The first message is about the use of internal situational factor which is destructive cycles as it can broke through guidance, education, and global leadership. We agree with the message. This is because it can be related to the chapter of individual behaviour or in a more specific, factor that influence individual behaviour. Mars Model was combined effect of the factors resulted in change in behaviour and performance. There are four influencing factor which are motivation, ability, role conception and situational factor. Situational factor constrains or facilitate someone’ behaviour and performance. There are two type of situational factor which are internal and external factor. Example of internal factor are internal practice, leadership, organizational policies, procedure and administrative requirement. While external factor are family and financial constraints, customer or legal requirement.

The old ways of thinking would forced T’Challa to hide his country safely, no matter what kind of chaos is happen in the outside world. There also another school of thought growing within the Wakandan’s people. The one that argues on more aggressive stance needs to be taken seriously, especially when the citizens of other African countries have undergone such horrible treatment on the global. This clearly show that there is external situational factor that influence T’Challa action for his country. By referring to its character it offers two different types of extreme points of view. T’Challa’s first mission is to protect his country by not getting involved and ignoring the outside world. While others Wakandan’s want to use Wakanda’s full technological and military might to seek retribution for hundreds of years of injustice.

The second message is their collective self-definition is tethered to conceptions of nation, tribal alliance, and geography. While Nakia and W’Kabi exhibit impulses to reach beyond the borders, even their sense of obligation to the world beyond Wakanda is based on a sense of moral obligation and noblesse oblige that comes with privilege: they want to help suffering people, but not necessarily because they believe that those people are like them. Neither character articulates what we might term a racial awareness that emphasizes kinship with other Africans.

If Blackness is a diaspora consciousness, forged and forced into existence by long histories of violence, resistance, and renegotiation, then the Wakandans, who have shielded themselves from that history in the interest of preserving their way of life, are effectively cut off from Blackness. They do not see themselves, and we cannot see them, as part of the diaspora. We agree with this massage because it can relate to ethical values and behavior. Ethic refer to the study of moral principle or values that determine whether actions are right or wrong. There are four type of value from model of personal values, Shwartz’s Values Circumflex. It consists four quadrants which are openness to change, conservation, self enhancement and self-transcendence. This film showed self-transcendence which represent a person’s motivation to promote the welfare of others and nature.

Lastly, even the high technologized city citizen could not assure of 100% unity. After the death of his father, the King who of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life. It is regarding our topic of conflicts. Based on what we have learned before, conflict is a process in which one party perceives that its interest are being opposed or negatively affected by another party. Some may think conflict is good and some thinks vice versa. A long time ago, people only think that conflict is bad as it gives negative effects however, this beliefs merged and changed as they nowadays thinks in a more critical way that conflict also good as it can help people to develop more creative solutions that reflect the needs of both parties involved. Conflict can be caused by incompatible goals, differentiations, interdependence or even poor communications. Relationship conflict are not task-related, but it focusing on personal values, gossip, individual’s styles or personality and personal taste.

One of the suggestion to minimize the first issue is to decrease the formalization in the structure of power. This formalization may affect those in the hierarchy as they have a precisely order on the do’s and don’t. Formalization is the degree to which an organisations standardize behaviour through rules, procedures, formal training, and related mechanism. Although formalization can increase the efficiency and compliance, it may also create a problems. When there is less formalization, a great synergy can be create as the leader would be more lenient and take subordinate opinion into more consideration. When there is a tolerance in the structure of power, less conflict would arise thus would bring a more peaceful and harmony working environment. The peacefulness in the working environment is essential as it would produce a great team work efficiently.

Next suggestion is by improving the communication skills and channel. An effective communication is when intended meaning is being transmitted. In this movie we can see that T’Challa ways of communication is weak, where there is a misunderstanding that leads to argument among them on whether to stick to the traditional only or expand their technologies in the modern world. Happened when both parties have a different knowledge and perspective on that certain issue. At this point T’Challa as the Wakanda King should have explain to their people about the decision that he make, so that they will understand the reason why he do it that way. T’Challa also need to hear other peoples opinion on helping the one in need by using their technologies of the vibranium, as mentioned by Nakia and Killmonger. This issue can be settled by having a discussion and good communication between T’Challa and other Wakandans. When they really communicate to each other with proper ways, the solution that will be achieved eventually will be the greatest.

We also suggested that the Killmonger’s character should identify himself. He must accept his own identity and should be motivate to increase his personality to make sure there is no conflict in himself. American must change their perception toward African-American by accepting them as American in society. This tension is at the core of Killmonger’s character, who have a different name and different identity for his own purpose. He must clear about himself because he is at war with himself. Hatred towards T’Challa and Wakandas is contradict to his identitieds as he is a royal blood.

Last suggestion that we can give out to minimize the problems occurred in the movie is that we have to spread the awareness and the backlash of racism in the community. This need to be done aggressively as being the victim of racism could create a scars and give an impact that could last a whole life. Although stereotype is a norms in the country, however we could reduce this stigma by spreading the awareness. This movement of spreading awareness could start off at education institute as we can teach and make sure kids from the early age that by being a racist toward some race, colour skin and culture would not make them any great. And someday, the one who we stereotyping might be the only one that could help us. Thus, being kind to everyone would not do any harm. And we must remember that even if they did something bad, it just some of them and not all of the descendent are alike.
