Child sexual abuse is rampant in India on a wider scale than it is thought of. There is underreporting of cases since the accused is a person acquainted with the victim and rarely a stranger. Factors such as public shame, non-cooperation on part of parents, fear of the accused and inability to understand the nature of the abuse constitute some of the factors of underreporting of cases of child sexual abuse in India.
Sexual offences related to child are not reported as there is lack of awareness in the society. The accused is also known person of the victim who makes it difficult to raise voice against him/her by force or fear. The factors like embarrassment, non-assistance of guardian and unawareness of nature the sexual offences also contribute to underreporting of the offences.

1. What are hurdles in reporting of offences related to child sexual abuse? 2. How reporting of these offences can be increased and what policies can be made in this regard?
INTRODUCTION
“Millions of children are victims of violence and sexual exploitation. They are physically and emotionally vulnerable and they can be scarred for life by different types of abuses which may be mental or physical or sexual. We know what to do, and we know how to do it. The means are at hand, it is up to us to take the opportunity and build a world suitable for children ” Children represent forty-two percent of the populace of our India and sexual maltreatment is one of the merciless offence to which they are subjected by others. Children in Asian social orders live childhood in an environment in which older folks are seen as ideal and trained to respect them. Insubordination indicates at awful childhood, in addition it is also considered as disrespect. This relation of respect provides encouragement to commit sexual offences against children. Likewise a sentiment of disgrace regularly comes in the method for giving equity to the people in question.
The problem of child sexual abuse is across the board, genuine and long developing issue persisting in India. Children are commonly sexually assaulted by the general population surrounding them, for example, neighbors, family-companions, ally. Cases of abuse of children by unknown person are comparatively less. People don’t trust organizations and feeling of shame in society avoids announcing the offence in respect of sexual assault amid people in question. Indian Parliament enacted Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act in 2012 (POCSO) to tackle these cases; however effective mechanism and arrangement for this Act is required to check this social threat. Studies recommend that in excess of 7,200 minors, including newborn children, are assaulted each year; specialists claim that maximum of them are not reported. Louis-Georges Arsenault , while stating worry for savagery with women after heinous assault case of Capital of India, stated that “such a large number of these cases are related to children ”. Children in search of their livelihood relocate themselves to big cities and become victim of drug peddling and different types of exploitation . Seeing the gravity of the offence and the adverse consequences it may bring to the child’s overall development it is must that such types of offences should be reported otherwise there will be no stop of such evil in our society.
