Teen Pregnancy is an unfortunate thing that happens to woman all over the world from ages 13-19, but girls even younger than that have been known to become pregnant as well. Woman who become pregnant at this age are usually not educated, influenced by media, or not having safe sex.
To begin with the process of becoming pregnant is when the individual is not having safe sex typically. There are three steps: conception, pregnancy, and childbirth. We ask ourselves why would a teenager who is still a child be having children? Then our second assumption is that the teenager has irresponsible parents or blame the school. But it is not always the school or parents to blame.
When an individual has sexual intercourse with another individual conception begins. Once conception begins, ovulation will happen each month once the ovaries releases an egg. When the egg can be released from the ovaries it goes straight into the fallopian tubes to fertilize the egg and will stay until the sperm cells meet up with it. After that happens the egg sis able to grow and divide into many cells. Once finished there the egg then leaves the fallopian tubes and goes straight to the uterus normally after four days. While in the uterus, the egg attaches to the lining of the uterus.
About seven days after conception, human chorionic gonadotropin can be found in the mother’s blood. Pregnancy is then happening, which is the ability to be able to carry the embryo within the female body. Pregnancy lasts about nine months and it is extremely important to have prenatal care. According to WebMD who wrote the article Teenage Pregnancy: Medical Risks and Realities states that “Teenage girls who are pregnant especially if they don’t have support from their parents are at risk of not getting the prenatal care they need”.
Prenatal care helps make sure that the baby and mother stay healthy. A lot of teenagers who are expectant mothers will be afraid to talk to their family explain they are pregnant and will hide the pregnancy and not receive the medical attention they need until it is to late. After about nine months, child birth begins with contractions and continues until the cervix is stretched, then begins to push until the baby begins to start crowning, then the baby is born not to long after. After the baby then the placenta comes out which oversaw giving food and oxygen to the baby.
Some of the factors other than not being educated enough according to Acquah are “poverty, broken home, separation in couples, death, single parent, peer pressure, lust, religious beliefs, abuse, rape, alcoholism, drug abuse and environmental influences”. Oklahoma is one of the top ten states to have the highest pregnancy rates. A lot of individuals may not have the access to learn about sex and aren’t educated on sexual health and pregnancy in general.
