Finland is a country in Northern Europe with population of six million people and its considered to be a homogeneous country. Finland is a parliamentary democracy with a multiparty political system. Sauli Niinistö is the President of Finland and is the head of state. He is also the Commander in chief of the Defense Forces and he leads the foreign policy. Juha Sipilä is the Prime Minister of Finland and is the head of government, the executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in the Parliament of Finland and the government as limited rights to change the legislation. The president has the power to reject Parliamentary decisions however it can be overruled by the parliament.
There economy is largely industrialized, mostly free market economy per capita gross domestic product. Trade is very significant with exports that are accounted for one third of their GDP. Finland is competitive in manufacturing such as wood, metals, engineering and electronic industries. They are excellent in export of technology and they encourage startups in the information and gaming, cleantech, communications technology and biotechnology sectors. Finland depends mostly on energy, raw materials and some elements for manufactured goods.
Finland is one of the best performing economy within the European union before 2009 its financial markets and banks were able to stay away from the worst of global financial crisis. Although, in the same year the world slowdown hit exports and domestic demand real hard causing Finland’s economy to contract from 2012 to 2014. The recession did have an influence on general government finances and the debt ratio but in 2016 the economy returned to growth. Finland’s main challenges will be boosting demands for its exports and reducing high labor costs.
Finland’s educational system in known for one of the best schools in the world and other nations are trying to better their education system to be more like Finlands. The 2008 graduation rate chart shows that Finland has a graduation rate of sixty three percent which is the highest one out of all twenty four OECD countries. They have less homework, better standardized tests, their teachers are well paid, has a higher library rate usage than any other country and classism is not important to Finland. Tuition for their own citizens are completely free and for foreign students there is a tuition but its way less than those paid in other countries.
Mexico is a country in North America with a population of one hundred twenty nine million people and it’s a heterogeneous country. Mexico’s political system is a federal presidential representative democracy republic whose government is establish on a congressional system. The president of Mexico is both the head of state and government and of a multiparty system. Mexico has a mixed economy, which it is made up of both state-owned companies and privately owned. Mexico suffer from economic inequality. Some regions, families and their children have a comfortable living but in the southern Mexico, many families and children live in poverty. They also struggle to provide food for their children and can’t afford to send their kids to school so they work instead. The 2008 graduation rate chart shows that Mexico’s rate is 18%. Education in Mexico struggles because of uncommitted teachers, lack of resources and corruption. Although school is free in Mexico, there are other the problems such as no classrooms, they need to meet outside, little supplies and some don’t have access to clean water. The amount of uncommitted teachers is the number one concerning issue for Mexico’s education. A lot of times the teachers will just wont show up leaving the children without any instructions on what to do. The children end up dropping out and mostly before they hit seventh grade.
Everyone wants to be successful and have a bright future for them that may included college and some may just go to work right after highschool. Either way you need a support system to guide you through your life. Finland definitely care about their citizens and what them to excel at life. There tuition is free for their citizens because they want their citizens to have the opportunity to go college and not have a burden of debt on their hands. Mexico on the other hand doesn’t have a good support system like Finland. Mexico school is free but at the same time you need teachers who actually want to teach and you need supplies such as paper, pencils, pens and resources. Students need a back bone to push them and tell them they can do it. They need people who care and want them to be successful in life.
