Hinduism is the third largest religion and the oldest religion on the planet. This religion originated in the Indian subcontinent and was founded in 1500 BC. This religion does not have a founder but has two founding groups. These two groups are called Harappans, Dravidians, and Aryans. The most recognized traditions and beliefs in the Hinduism are Dharma, Karma, Moshka, and Samsara. This religion has a diverse cultural and philosophical practice. These people believe in prayers, honesty, austerity, and truth, but they do believe in a superpower that can manifest itself in different forms. Hinduism has two holy books or scriptures, which are the Shruti and Smritis. These holy books or scriptures were written in the Sanskrit language, which was the language spoken at that time.
The Hindu religion is well known for celebrating enormous holidays and festivals. The purpose of these festivals and holidays are to purify their soul and bodies to drive away evil spirits. Many of the Hindu celebrations commemorate historical and cultural events in the Hindu religion to celebrate the cycle of life. Many of the Hindu festivals and holidays often include dancing, fasting, prayer, worship, and music. But one of the most popular festivals in the Hindu religion is the Diwali. This major festival or celebration is celebrated between the months of October or November. This festival can last for three days, but often can be celebrated for up to five days. Another celebration that can extend for days depending on the social status of the families is the Hindu marriage ceremonies. The Hindu marriage ceremonies are extremely colorful.
Moreover, there are a total of eight different forms of marriage ceremonies recognized in the Hindu religion. These are Braham marriage, Daiva marriage, Arsha marriage, Prajapatya marriage, Gandharva marriage, Asura marriage, Rakshasa marriage, and Paishacha marriage. However, they are rituals in the Hindu marriage ceremonies, which are pre-marriage and post-marriage rituals. The pre-marriage ceremony is a formal family meeting, where both families make the necessary arrangements for the wedding. The conventional marriage ritual is called Kanyadan, which is giving the bride away to the groom. After accepting her, they both walk seven steps around the fire altar called the Saptapadi. This marriage ceremony is performed by a Vedic priest in the presence of their gods. The post-wedding ritual can include some traditional games between the groom and the bride, sharing meals, receiving blessings from families and friends and family pictures. Many people in this religion prefer to marriage in the traditional style with the presence of their parents and family. In the Hindu marriage ceremonies, the elder plays a significant role by providing support and making the wedding arrangements to the couple until they settle down.
The Hindu religious practices different type of worships that are divided into various groups such as Mantras, Stotras, Aartis, Shlokas, and Bhajans. In the Hindu religion, gods can represent different religious forces and followers worship them either at home or temples. Hindus use different customs and prayers to pay tribute to their gods. There are three categories where the holy prayers can fall into in the Hindu religion. These categories are the Nitya that is considered the Morning prayer and is practiced three times a day. The Naimittika which is practiced certain time of the year by visiting temples and celebrating annual festivals. The Kamya that consists of a holy pilgrimage to devoted places like Gansger river. They also practice some various ways to pay tribute and show devotion to their gods. These other practices are by doing Yoga and Puja. The method of Puja is by washing off the feet, presenting flowers, perfume, lighting unique lamps and candles. Yoga is considered to many people around the planet where they practice yoga for their daily routine of exercise, but yoga in the Hindu religion is to acquire discipline and knowledge. They practice yoga to allow them to isolate themselves to study Hindu text. Also, they believe in yoga in a form of helping others and acquire positive karma. In the Hindu religion, they practiced yoga to allow them to control their bodies and make them aware of their spiritual identity.
In conclusion, I found this religion interesting due to the fact is the oldest religion on the planet, and people can pray to their desire gods. Also, I found interesting the way they celebrate their holidays and how the marriage ceremonies are celebrated entirely different than Western marriage ceremonies. I encourage anyone to study this religion, which, in fact, is the third largest religion on the planet.
