The concept of health has changed from the traditional perspective that majorly focused on the treatment of different diseases to a new approach that focuses on the entire wellbeing. According to the constitution adopted by the International Health Conference held in 1946, health is defined as the state of having complete social, mental, and physical wellbeing rather that the absence of disease (Badash et al., 2017). Traditionally, health emphasized on the importance of healthcare professionals in diagnosing and providing healthcare interventions to treat different health issues. However, the current healthcare system focuses on helping individuals to reach their highest potential of their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health that has led to changes in the United States’ healthcare system to focus on value rather than volume of services provided to patients (Badash et al., 2017).

One of the contributing factors to the transformation of healthcare on the United States is the increased demand and diversification of healthcare needs. Another factor is the high costs involved in the provision of healthcare services as well as poor patient outcomes requiring the transformation of the healthcare system in the aim of addressing these concerns that affect the achievement of healthcare goals (Kueny, Shever, Lehan Mackin, & Titler, 2015). One of the areas that has been highlighted as important in enhancing the achievement of healthcare goals is health promotion that seeks to enable individuals to have an increased control of their health. Some of the changes in health promotion include improved patient education that seeks to increase health literacy among diverse communities and improvement in social networking to enable individuals to effectively interact with healthcare professionals (Kueny et al., 2015).

It is important for nurses to implement health promotion interventions based on evidence-based practice as this provides the most effective interventions to improve patient outcomes. This is because evidence-based practice rely on past interventions to develop more enhanced solutions that means that patient outcomes will be improved (Svalastog, Donev, Kristoffersen, & Gajović, 2017). Evidence-based practice is also beneficial in providing an effective use of healthcare resources through advanced methods that help in minimizing the costs incurred in the provision of healthcare services. This is important as high costs may affect the provision of quality healthcare services that may lead to poor patient outcomes (Svalastog et al., 2017).
