Sports are a vigorous physical activity which involves physical exertion and skill and plays a great role in people’s life by keeping them healthy and active. There is no doubt that sports are beneficial for both children and young adults. The issue of whether women should be allowed the same opportunities in sports as men have been debated in our community for decades. Some people think that sports are more appropriate for men than women, while others think that women have excelled in sports in so many ways and should not be held back from participating in many of the most popular and physically demanding sports just because they are female. The issue is important because it concerns gender division in sports. I believe that women should be allowed the same opportunities in sports and men because it’s gender equality, sports are highly beneficial, and women are capable of excelling in sports.

It has been argued that from a young age, boys, in comparison to girls, are more interested in sports and are biologically more fit to play sports. Eleanor (2009) argued that a female tennis player would have a small chance of beating a male tennis player of the same rank. According to the nature of our bodies, men, so this argument goes, can generally hit the ball with more force than women can. However, from a physiological perspective, both men and women are equally able to play all sports. Despite the allegations, there are certainly women who can out-perform men I sports; thus, women should be given equal chances as men. Colette (2000) stated that there are no biological reasons for women to stay off the sporting field and that women are as capable as men in excelling in sports.

On one hand, people may argue that sports are more suitable for men than women because they require a huge amount of strength, and that women should step aside because men are naturally drawn to the sport, but on the other hand, it’s a fact that from an early age, both boys and girls are equally interested in sports, but due to social influences, traditional values, and peer pressure, girls eventually become less willing to play sports. Furthermore, sports have many benefits that no human being should be deprived of and it’s unfair to not give women the same opportunities that men get; “An active participation in sports has a positive influence on a teenager’s social life, self-esteem, and even academic performance.” (Sitkowski, 2008).
Women should be allowed the same opportunities in sports as men. Studies have shown that women are more naturally motivated by self-improvement and goals related to team success than men. If a woman is capable of excelling in a sport she should be allowed the same opportunity as a man who is equally as good and being a woman shouldn’t keep that from happening.

In conclusion, even if men have more strength than women, it is oppressive to prevent women from having equal chances as men. Also, sports cause a lot of improvements in the human body and mind which both men and women should benefit from. Also, lots of women in the sporting field have shown that they are equally capable of succeeding as men. Being involved in sports is an essential act that everyone should do to keep a healthy body and mind.
