Alcoholism is one of the major problems in society. The effects of this disease are very dangerous and serious. That disease affects many people today. It not affects only the alcoholic, but their family, friends, and co-workers. However, alcoholism can cause many problems in a person’s life such as psychological, physical problems and emotional problems.
The first effects caused by alcoholism are psychological. When people drink alcohol at the beginning makes them feel relaxed, fun, and freer. But if they drink it in excess can cause anxiety and depression. So, it also causes family problem, violence, suicide, changes of behavior, and others. People believe that they can handle and control their drinking, so that it will not cause any problem. However, alcohol is very powerful and alters people emotional and behaviors. According to Brad J. Bushman, “According to the physiological disinhibition, alcohol increases aggression directly by anesthetizing the center of the brain that normally inhibits aggressive responding.” So, alcohol alters the perception of most people, which encourages then to make decisions that could change the rest of their lives. One of example of violence and people cannot change is crime. They do not have a control about your behavior and feelings while they had a lot of quantities of alcohol.
The second effects of alcoholism are physical problem. Alcoholism causes severe damage in the people body such as cancer in the stomach, kidneys and liver. Also causes neurons damage, which causes alterations in the body movements. According to the article Hepatology “Alcohol remains a major cause of liver disease worldwide”. Also, the article says that “In 2003, 44% of all deaths from liver disease were attributed to alcohol”. There are other effects in the body like cirrhosis because people drink excessively amounts of alcohol which is increase 14% in men and 8% in women. In additional, alcohol can cause neurologic disorders with lengthen drinking changes in receptor motor which making it difficult to control the movements. Also, people start loss appetite and get depression. All these physical problems could cause death if there are use a lot of amount of alcohol.
The last effects of alcoholism problem are emotionally. Alcoholism affects families all over the world, and some families are even divides because of it.
