The award-winning film, Forrest Gump, shows the heartwarming journey of a mentally challenged man’s life. The protagonist, Forrest, is made out to be a slow, dim-witted individual, but he is not as unintelligent as everyone thinks. Forrest Gump displays loyalty and remains an unprejudiced and a strong person even throughout obstacles.
The first friend Forrest makes is Jenny. She was the only person nice to him and he unconditionally loves her. As they grow older, Jenny becomes increasingly unstable. She begins to take drugs, becomes a prostitute, and attempts suicide. Forrest is always there for her and is always trying to protect her despite her situations. When he joined the army he befriends a black man named Bubba and they become very close.
They promised to start a shrimp business after they got back. After an ambush, Forrest goes back and saves his fellow soldiers and saves the life of Lt. Dan, a man who would later be forever grateful to him. He went all the way back into the war zone and attempted to save Bubba. This shows his noble qualities as he never considered his safety but his only goal was to save as many people as he could. He kept his word and started the shrimp business even after Bubba’s death. His actions demonstrate the importance of remaining loyal and keeping promises to your friends.

While at the University at Alabama he aided in the integration of the first black woman there. Wherever he is, he always seems to do good deeds even if he does not know what’s going on. Forrest always sees the positive side of people and is not judgmental. His optimism was something unique to him. Whether a random person at a bus stop, the president or a member of the black panther, he treats them indifferent. No matter their race or social place he treats them with respect.
Forrest Gump had an awe-inspiring life mostly due to his perseverance. The first time he showed his dedication was when he broke out of his leg braces running away from the bullies. He also becomes an international ping-pong star while trying to improve relations between the US and China. He then ran across the country for three years. This was a way for him to find purpose in himself and get past the trauma he went through. He does not let his past define him.
As Forrest’s mother would say, “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get”. Forrest handled challenges as they came. He had to face many challenges even as a child. He had a lower IQ than most children his age and had to wear leg braces. This caused him to be bullied all the time but he does not let this ruin his life and makes the most out of it. He had to endure the death of his mother, best friend Bubba and later on the death of his wife, Jenny.
Even after Jenny’s death, he continues to tell his life story to strangers and Forrest is an excellent example of a man who never gives up and keeps moving forward despite his past. He’s been through some rough times but he makes the best of things regardless of the circumstances. This movie showed that life is not easy but it can be enjoyed.
Forrest Gump made the most of his difficult life and lived by being loyal, dedicated, and staying positive. He expected the unexpected and this attitude is why he was successful in life. Although he had a slight disability of a low IQ he showed his intelligence through his actions. This film is inspiring because this man is able to overcome so many hardships and live a life full of happiness.
