Have you ever heard of Jackie Robinson? If you haven’t you are missing out. Jackie Robinson is a big part of Black History Month. Why? Because he changed a lot of people perspectives. One thing he had to do before the fact of helping everybody else is having to overcome life. After overcoming huge obstacles he started to change peoples minds about color. The results of him doing that caused a lot of other African Americans the opportunity to live there life with equality. Jackie Robinson is a important figure in Black History month.
First of all, before you can go help or do anything for others you should really make sure your stable. That is exactly what Jackie Robinson did. Before helping others he overcame obstacles in life. For example when Jackie was little his father left him and had to kids with another women(United States History). Another thing is he was in a gang called “Pepper street”(United States History). He also got arrested once after he was disputing the policies detention on one of his friends(Commonlit). He overcame all these things to build a better life.
Second, After overcoming many hurdles he got enlisted to go play in a all white baseball league. He was on the dodgers and was recruited by Branch Rickey (Discovery Education). When he was first there no really liked him fans would yell and scream horrible things and some of his own teammates didn’t appreciate him( History). Though once he started playing he started to win people over and soon enough instead of the crowds booing at him there cheering for him. He was like flash and had a batting average of .342(United States History). He changed peoples minds about color. At the end of course there is still some people who weren’t going for him but he just pushed threw it.
Third, the results of Jackie Robinson changing people’s mind about color lead to great things. Many other blacks were able to take opportunities and do what they couldn’t do before. An example is after Jackie robinson retired many more blacks went and played in the all whites baseball league( History). In fact 150 blacks were signed(History). He didn’t just help African Americans be able to play baseball with whites the results of changing people’s mind also lead on to everyday life. He helped blacks just a little bit with equality even though it was barely anything it was a start.
Concluding, These are the reasons Jackie Robinson is an important figure in Black History Month. First he overcame life so that he can help others. Second he managed to change peoples minds about color by being himself. Third he gave other blacks the opportunity to have an equal life.
