Before the French Revolution
Enlightenment
European diplomacies, philosophy, science, and communications were completely reoriented during the course of the “long 18th century” as part of the campaign it had been associated to by its shareholders as the Age of Reason. It was also seen as an intellectual and philosophical movement that had ruled the world of utilizing ideas in Europe.
Estate General
When the King of France feared over taxation would spark in rebellion, he had decided to hold a meeting with the Estate General. Yet, that didn’t help. The Third Estate held the least power, while also being the poorest. The Second and First Estates were the richest; this act sent almost all the tax to the lowest Estate.
Louis XVI
Louis XVI had put taxes on the poor to support the wars, spending money on himself along with other nobles during this time too. When he set up a meeting with the Estate Generals to try and solve the debts France had yet to pay, he made the peasants do it. So having to pay off France’s debt for fighting in the American Revolution; added with the fact they had to deal with a tyrant for a king, the French Revolution began.

Events that had Taken Place in the French Revolution:
Storming of the Bastille
Angry revolutionists storm the Bastille. By doing this, not only does it serve to make a narrative against the monarchy, but the mob had also attained weapons and gunpowder that were kept in the prison. At the time there were only seven at the jail so far.
March on Versailles
The woman of Paris had set out on a march from Paris to Versailles, in the goals to get bread as it was too costly for them to buy. They were armed with pitchforks, pikes, muskets, and to the beat of a drum, the woman began chanting. Despite the rich French soil, most of the population of Paris was starving.
Reign of Terror
The Reign of Terror was a period of about 6 months, and was when most of the executions that were during the French Revolution were done. It had originally started after King Louis died and the first execution was for Marie Antoinette. She was separated from King Louis and stayed with her children; not long after, her son Louis XVII suspiciously disappeared and they never saw him again.
Following the Revolution
Drop in the Church’s power
During the Reign of Terror, religion attempted to be abolished in France. The Committee of Public Safety had made this attempt by creating new calendars, renaming religious landmarks, and by plundering religious buildings. This included the execution of the clergy and the closing of many churches. It has been known as “Dechristianisation” during the time of this event.
The rise of Napoleon
Born on the island of Corsica, Napoleon promptly rose through the ranks of the military throughout the French Revolution (1789-1799). And after securing political strength in France in a 1799 coup d’état (The act of dethroning a king), he had crowned himself emperor in 1804. He then went to rule from 9th of November to 28th June,1815.
A Constitutional Monarchy
The Tennis Court Oath had called for the Third Estate General to create a new constitution, effectively making the absolute monarchy when merged with the effects of Bastille Day. The monarchy was formerly made to be governed by a monarch but controlled and checked by a government or parliament. This government system had encouraged a more democratic environment in France and had encouraged that there be no influence upon the upper class. This act had gone on to increase the powers in the middle and lower classes.
