Autistic students it is a group of students with special needs. Even though they require more attention than bright students, it did not stop many of them of becoming genius and famous although some of them are long time dead. They are still a great inspiration for lots of genius minds of today, just a few of them are: Amadeus Mozart, Sir Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin and Thomas Jefferson.

I would like to start this paragraph with some encouraging facts. Some of the greatest minds suffered from autism and although it gave them a hard time, it was never a barrier to achieve what they actually did. If we take Mozart a brilliant musician, who showed signs of autism (repeated facial expressions, unintentional constant motion of his hands and feet, sensitive hearing, being excessively active, frequent mood changes and being reckless) we can see that he had pretty tough life he is still world famous. There is still a debate if Mozart was or was not autistic. “Mozart letters indicated a presence of echolalia which may be a way of communicating for autistics. These characteristics indicate that Mozart could have been on the autistic spectrum”, (Taken from an Autistic website). Nobody can say it with accuracy whether he was autistic, but the main thing is that he showed many signs of autistic people and this did not prevent him of becoming a musician.

It is also supposed that Sir Isaac Newton had been in autistic spectrum. Because of his very quiet nature he had difficulties in keeping and making new friends. He also did not know how to talk with individuals although he considered them his friends. While working he was extraordinarily focused on his work and also he strictly relied upon routines. This went to the point as when he had to give a lecture, he held that lecture whether there was an audience or not.

The great Charles Darwin meritorious for the evolution theory, based on Prof. Michael Fitzgerald’s research, was also autistic. As seen with Mozart and Newton, Darwin was also a solitary child. He avoided interaction with people as much as he could and he preferred other means of communication therefore he wrote letters when he wanted to communicate. As every autistic child that has a specific area in which he/she is extraordinarily good at, Darwin’s talent was intrigued by chemistry and gadgets. And this fixation on certain topics is often seen in autistic people. All of these characteristics lead to the conclusion that Darwin certainly had some form of autism.

Among all these great men I was mostly impressed when I read that Thomas Jefferson had some form of autism. It was amazing to read that the third president of the United States of America and writer of the declaration of independence has been autistic. Author of diagnosing Jefferson says that Jefferson was shy and unable to relate to people. He had difficulties to speak in public which was unimaginable when we take in consideration that he was a president of a great force as the USA and had to hold public speeches all the time. Norm Ledgin (2000) indicates in his book that Jefferson had Asperger’s syndrome which the majority of psychologists consider as a sub group of autism. Some of the signs Jefferson was showing were that he was sensitive to loud noises,” if anyone raised his/her voice, almost certainly Jefferson would have found a polite way to remove himself”, (chapter1. P1), he had difficulties with his finances (he lastly died in debt),
