The most dramatic event in U.S. history that took place a century and a half ago was the The Mexican-American War. The Mexican-American War helped fill Americans desire to expand its territory. This event happened from 1846-148, located north of the Rio Grande in the disputed area. Was the United States justified in going to war with Mexico? The United States was not justified in going to war with Mexico because Native Americans were already living on the land, expanded slavery, and Texas annexation.

One reason the Mexican War was not justified because the Native Americans were already living on the land. In an article written by Julie Singley called “Impact of the Mexican-American War” states “American citizens wanted to expand their nation by acquiring all of the land on the North American continent regardless of the native people already residing on the land.” This evidence shows the US was not justified in going to war because the Americans were already going to take territory away from Mexico even though Native Americans lived their.

A second reason the Mexican War was not justified was because they were expanding slavery. Document D states “A current of emigration soon followed from the United States. Slaveholders crossed the Sabine [river between Louisiana and Texas] with their slaves in defiance of the Mexican ordinance of freedom.” This evidence shows the US was not justified in going to war with Mexico because Americans expanded slavery problems even though Mexico made it illegal.

A third reason the Mexican War was not justified was because of the Texas annexation. Document C states “From Mexico’s point of view, the annexation of Texas to the United States was inadmissible for both legal and security reasons. This evidence shows the US was not justified in going to war with Mexico because, Texas was Mexico’s until Americans were annexating which made the Mexicans mad.

In conclusion, the United States was not justified because Native Americans were already living on the land, expanded slavery, and Texas annexation.
