The book To Kill A Mockingbird is a true story about a black man who was being falsely accused of raping a white woman. The book To Kill A Mockingbird is important to teach in schools curriculum because it teaches students important lessons that they need to know in life. It also teaches us a lesson that you should care for someone no matter their race or education is. Readers should care because it teaches them about racism and segregation in the 1960s and how it affected lives of black people.

I think we should keep To Kill A Mockingbird in schools is because it prepares students for being “uncomfortable” throughout the book the “n” word is seen and this language in the book does seem a little harsh and can make some students “uncomfortable”. But I believe that 7-8th graders can be mature about the language and can handle seeing the “n” word a couple of times in the novel or any word they might not like. Also it is good to feel “uncomfortable” in the book because it gets you prepared for being “uncomfortable” in life.

The book To Kill A Mockingbird teaches good lessons about integrity and racism and segregation which are important to know what it is and who was infected by it. Throughout the book integrity is shown by atticus the father of the main character scout by being honest during the court and doing what is right by defending tom and also an important lesson that the book teaches us is that caring for others should not be dependent on race or education and that you should care for everyone and race and education do not matter people are people. This is shown in the book by Atticus the father of the main character defends the black man Tom Robinson and saying that he did not rape the young white woman. Atticus doesn’t care about Toms race or his education and is defending him anyway.

The reason why I think we should keep to kill a mockingbird in schools is it teaches a lot about history and what it is like to live in the 1030s though a young girl named scout. Scout is not only showing us what her life was like but also how bad racism was in her time and in her community. Also you get to see how hard it was to live in that time and that a lot of people in that time were poor and couldn’t afford much.

Some schools are complaining about how the students are saying the books language makes them “uncomfortable”. The book does say the “n” word a few times and other words that are inappropriate and seeing these words could make some students “uncomfortable” I respond to this by saying that it is good to feel uncomfortable because that prepares you for feeling uncomfortable in life because you will be no matter what.
