Although I didn’t have enough time to see a live concert this year due to my busy schedule, I have attended one a year prior to this year. On april 29th of 2017, I had attended a Famous Dex and Lil Uzi Vert Rap/ hip-hop concert. Although it is hip-hop, this is still a form of popular music. These two artists had both received popularity around the same time in their careers and came up in the same music genre. This concert had been held at the Metro in Chicago.

When first arriving to the show, there was a DJ with a digital turntable who had just began playing popular songs at the time. I was skeptical at the time because the concert had started at 7 p.m. but the artists wouldn’t perform until 10 p.m.. I was worried that this would be boring until then because I did not know they would have other, up and coming, artists perform in the meantime till the main events were ready.

A lot of the artists who had performed were either a part of the hip hop genre or the R&B genre of music. I didn’t really like all of the new unknown artists who had performed because a lot of their music had sounded thrown together with little to no rehearsal of their own songs. These new artists seemed to be trying to “ride the new wave” of music, because all of the music had almost sounded the same or definitely had heavy influences of the popular artists at the time.

Although the music wasn’t the greatest, the energy and vibe around was still enjoyable and hype. As the night progressed, new artist after new artist, 10 p.m. had rolled around and there was no sign of the main events. The main DJ who was also the host of the concert had said that Famous Dex’s and Lil Uzi Vert’s flight had not been landed yet so we must wait another 30 minutes. In the meantime, the host had called up a well known Chicago Rapper who is known as Lil Bibby.

Lil Bibby had became popular off of a song made in 2012 known as “Kill Sh**”, and when Lil bibby arrived to save the show, they played that song. I have always had a love for music, but nothing beats hearing one of your favorite songs live in person. The speakers were booming so loud I could barely hear myself think, but at the time that didn’t matter.

As soon as his song had ended, the crowd went silent, and we had heard one of Lil Uzi Verts most famous song known as “Money Longer” and the crowd had went ballistic. When Uzi had stepped on stage he had Famous Dex follow behind him by only a few steps. Everything had then turned a thousand times better. They had performed almost every song that had been released from the start of their career.

Everything they had played, good or bad songs, had felt like the best thing ever just because of the environment we were in. the feeling of dancing and jumping around with people who also love music as much as you do, to make it better an artist that everyone loves, is unmatched. Seeing some of your favorite artists living in the moment performing the art that they had created, is such a sight to see. It made everything sound so much better.

Finally the concert had began to wind down. The artists said their thank you’s and goodbyes and left. After looking back at the concert and performance, I had came to the conclusion that if you have a great song, you must have a great performance to match that energy. The song selections were very mainstream but that is expected.

My favorite part of the concert was hearing money longer getting blasted through the gigantic speakers that surrounded the stage. The louder the music, the more enjoyable. If I had the time and funds to see more artists that I enjoy listening to on the daily, I would do it in a heartbeat. But the overall experience of my first concert was a success. I’m still thankful to hear some of my favorite music live to this day.
