In “The Gift of the Magi,” the main conflict is that Della does not have enough money saved to buy the gift she thinks Jim deserves.

In the beginning of ”The Gift of the Magi” the tone would be sad and serious, because Della cannot purchase a present for Jim. But as the reader nears the end, the tone changes to happy and loving because Della and Jim both realize the other loves them very much.

The story takes place in New York during the Christmas holiday season. Della and Jim, the couple who are the main characters in the short story, live in a tiny but well-kept apartment. It is sparsely furnished due to the couple’s meager income.Nov 30, 2021
