Social Darwinism means that one person’s value is superior, and the rest of the values or cultures, are inferior. So that means that the culture that is superior can rule other countries and get power over them. Which is completely unfair because we shouldn’t fight over a nation if a country wants it to be alone that country should be left alone no country or culture is superior to each other they all have their own rules, and regulation that people are supposed to follow once they are citizen of that country. Social Darwinism affected world war1 because people thought that they were better than Russians and or other European countries, for the reason of social Darwinism people could rationalize their harsh actions and didn’t say anything to anyone about the harsh actions that they were going through. The thought of Darwinism caused a lot of arguments and fight against the countries. “By the early 19th century, however, religion no longer provided appropriate moral cover for Imperialism” (Spear, S. 2016).
Ethnocentrism means that one person is superior to everyone for example as in Hitler in Germany he made that everyone knew that he was superior to everyone everything had to go according to Hitler. In the White Man’s “Take up the White Man’s burden Send forth the best ye breed.” (Kipling, R. (n.d.). The quote means that it’s mainly focusing on command, and authoritative for white people, for example, United States the controlling and the colonizing for bringing the civilization. In white man’s burden, Kipling believed that different colored people are violent and that they cannot be protected so they need white people as overprotective people so they can save the different colored people. Kipling also believed that in Social Darwinism to take control over that white people are more capable of taking control of the situation that the colored race people they wouldn’t know how to take control so Kipling is saying that they should thank the white people for taking control over the situation, and more capable to survive, succeed the evolution. The main idea of the poem was that the white westerns had the power to rule the regions than the colored race people. This poem is about the United States and the Philippine Islands. Kipling advised the United States to take up the burden of territory that remained in the territories of the British, and other European countries. The poem was extensively blamed for the security of colonization, and it was rejected by protagonists. The ethnocentrism in this poem was to show us that British people the white culture were superior to all other cultures.
In this poem “Your new-caught, sullen peoples, Half-devil and half child.” (Kipling, R. (n.d.). This verse is talking about humans or other races who don’t believe in white cultures or doesn’t even try to attend the functions of white cultures they think that their cultures are better, and that is enough for them to endure they don’t try to expand their beliefs. Those people have their own political values, religious beliefs, and cultural values. The author of the poem calls nonwhite culture people uncivilized the half devil and half child is mainly toward the Filipino people because they protested against the American colonizing, so Kipling referred to them as isolated people who needs to be trained to follow the white British cultures as well, and not only follow their culture, political values, religious, and social beliefs.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, I think that this poem that Kipling is talking about the United States and the Philippines Island how they wanted the Unites States to take the burden. The white British European ruled the territories, and they wanted to show the people there that they rule the territories, and they are superior to everyone else. This poem is mainly about how the countries were under one person and they made sure that they listened to that person. Which is completely unfair because one country has its own culture, religious belief, political, and social culture they should be able to believe whatever they want instead of asking permission or being scared or people for example people were scared of Hitler so they didn’t speak up about him ruling Germany they didn’t say anything and listened to what he said.
