My sister and I fight a lot. Normally, what happens is she says something to me that makes me mad and I retaliate. Then we start arguing back and forth, and sometimes it gets physical and we hit each other. After a while my mom comes in and yells at both of us. I get really defensive saying I didn’t do anything and that my sister started it. Then me and my mom argue and I get in trouble.
Just as me and my family argue a lot, Anne Frank and her family argue a lot in the secret annex.
Anne Frank was born on June 12,1929 in Frankfurt, Germany. Her parents were Otto Frank and Edith Frank. She also had a sister named Margot Frank. For the first five years of Anne’s life she lived in an apartment on the outskirts of Germany. On Anne’s 13th birthday she received a diary which she wrote in all the time.
In march 1933, Hitler rose to power. He hated jews so he started putting them all into concentration camps. Anne and her family realized it wasn’t safe for them anymore so they went into hiding. They moved into an attic apartment behind Otto Frank’s business. Anne called it the secret annex. Shortly after the Franks moved in, one more family moved in, Otto’s business partner Hermann Van Pels, and his wife and son, Auguste and Peter, who were also Jewish. Meip Gies helped the family stay in hiding . She kept Anne’s writings in the drawer of her desk. The residents of the annex fought a lot. In the annex Anne still learned to read and write. This was because her parents wanted her to go back to school when the war was over.
On August 4, 1944 after two years of hiding, the Franks and the other people in hiding were found and arrested by Nazi Gestapo. They were then sent to the Bergen Belson concentration camp. Her last diary entry was on August 1, 1944. Sometime in February 1945, Anne and Margot died of typhus fever. On April 15, 1945, British forces liberated the death camp. They found about 60,000 prisoners there, a lot of them very sick. Thousands of dead prisoners laid unbarried on camp grounds. From May 1943 to april 15, 1945, 37,600 prisoners died in the Bergen Belsen camp.
The events that happened during the holocaust were very tragic and it’s a shame that so many Jewish people had to go through it. It’s sad that Anne died so young and we will never know what difference she could have made in the world. It was a terrible point in time and much of it could have been lost forever if not for Anne’s diary. It was because of Anne’s writings that we know how truly tragic and terrible the events were during the holocaust. Anne’s diary gave us a first hand view of what happened. Without her we might not fully understand the darkest period in human history.
