We have all lived our life by a set of laws that have been enforced because of problems that have occured but imagine living in a world without conflict. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the author represents the transformation from civilization to savagery as the conflict. This is shown throughout the story by the roles of savagery that takes over the minds, that were once civilized.
Jacks character morphs from a civilized choir boy to a savage hunter. Jack is interested in gaining power over the other boys to establish his most original impulses. He is enthusiastic about killing pigs and quickly finds himself as he leads the boys on hunting adventures. After jack’s experiences his first Successful hunt, he quickly descends into savagery by painting his face and openly opposes ralph as the leader of the group. “ he looked in astonishment , no longer at himself but an awesome stranger… He began to dance and his laughter became a bloodthirsty snarling” (pg. 64) Eventually jack attempts to take power from ralph but fails, which then leads him to establish his own tribe of hunters at the another side of the island, where he is the ruler of his tribe of savages. He becomes a ruthless leader that leads his tribe on violent, exciting hunts. Jack punishes his enemies and threatens to harm anyone in his tribe who associated with ralph.
Ralph came into the island from the same place that jack did, a very civilized and orderly school, and uses his authority to establish rules, protect the good of the group, and enforce the moral and ethical codes of the English society the boys were raised in. As you see in the book when ralph says ”We did everything adults would do. What went wrong?” He stays very orderly throughout most of the book but is overpowered most of the time by Jack and his group. Ralph morphs by using the conch as his symbol for organization and to civilize all the boys. Yet the conflict between Ralph and jack deepens as the conch loses its symbolic power of civilization.

Throughout the entire book we see how the boys actions change , mostly by the influence from jack which starts to grow on the rest of them. Ralph gets thrown over by the influence that jack has on all of the another boys by Jack creating rituals such as ceremonial dances and chants These routines draw the boys closer together which increases their comradery. Jack fearlessly leads his group of boys on hunts and continually challenges Ralph In front of his Savages which elevates his standing among the boys. Jack then perpetuates the existence of the Beast which he uses the boys fears to manipulate them and also creates common enemies in Ralph and the Beast. Jack then successfully gained favor among the boys and is their fearless chief at the end.
