Have you ever read or even watched the play Midsummer Nights Dream Well in this essay you will learn about the basic plot structure of the play. You will also read me talking some differences between the play and the movie and you will read about my opinion an which Liked better the play or the movie. You will also know the summaries of each act which will be included in the plot.
The play Midsummer Nights Dream has a plot structure like every play or book you read And all plots have a exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. The Exposition of the play which is Act 1 scene 1 is that Theseus and Hippolyta are planning their wedding and that two of the main characters Hermia and Lysander love each other and that it is set in Athens, Greece.
The raising action includes multiple Acts so the next Acts you see will be apart of the rising action but we are just going to start with Act 1 scene 1 and what happens is that Hermia dad Egeus wants her to marry Demetrius but she doesn’t love him and she loves Lysander so they run away to the forest. Helena one of the characters that Demetrius used to date before he liked Hermia told Demetrius that they were running away. Act 1 scene 2 Quince who is planning a play for Theseus and Hippolyta’s wedding and it is called in “A very tragic comedy about the horrible deaths of Pyramus and Thisbe.”
One of the characters performing the play Bottom gout stuck with the role of Pyramus and he wants to be a tyrant but the producer I would say Quince says no, and then the other people complain about their role and he ignores them a well and they are set to have practice at the “Giant Oak tree.” Act 2 scene 1 what basically happens is the fairy king and queen Oberon and Titania are in the same forest and Titania kidnapped a child from the Indian king and the king Oberon wants the boy for himself.
Fairy named Puck or also known as Robin is asked by the king to get a magic flower that can be turned into a love potion that Oberon plans to use on Titania while she is sleeping. But while this is happening Oberon sees Demetrius and Helena fighting because she loves him but he doesn’t like her. So the king switches the roles and have him love Helena and Helena not like him.
Act 2 scene 2 the fairies sing Titania asleep and the king puts the potion in her eyes. Elsewhere in the forest we see Hermia and Lysander are lost so they plan to fall asleep in the grass. While they were sleeping Puck wrongly puts some of the love potion in Lysander’s eyes. Helena finds them both asleep and checks if Hermia and Lysander are asleep or dead and when she is checking Lysander he wakes up and sees her first and since he has the love potion he immediately falls in love with her.
Act 3 scene 1 Puck changes one of the characters Bottoms’s head into that of a donkey and long story short he wakes of Titania and he falls in love with his because of the love potion. The climax of the play is Act 3 scene 2 and what happens in the act is that Puck tells Oberon what he is to Bottom and Titania. Puck and Oberon also spy on Hermia and Demetrius because she thinks he killed Lysander. The king realizes that Puck put he potion in the wrong peoples eyes.
Oberon ask Puck to bring them all to them, Oberon puts the potion into Demetrius eyes and the wakes him up causing him to fall in love with her. Helena thinks that the boys are messing with her. Hermia hears all of them talking and hears Lysander say that he loves Helena. Lysander also says he will fight Demetrius for her. In all of this drama things get worse when Hermia comforts Helena saying she stole Lysander from her and know Hermia wants to fight Helena.
The king Oberon and Puck wait till they are asleep to give them the antidote which will get the back to normal. All of the characters go their separate ways and go to sleep and the antidote gets put on all of them. The falling action includes Act 4 scene 1 and what happens is that Titania is still in love with Bottom because of the potion and Oberon ask Titania again about giving him the Indian child again in exchange for her turning back to normal and he says yes.
Also what happens is that Theseus, Egeus, and Hippolyta find Lysander, Demetrius, Hermia, and Helena in the forest. They all wake up to Theseus. Egeus tries to make Demetrius be mad at Hermia and Lysander but he still is in love with Helena. Theseus says all of hem will be married along side them and Hippolyta. Bottom also gets the donkey head off of him ad when he wakes up he goes to the play.
Act 4 scene 2 is also part of the falling action and wha happens is that Quince and the others worry about Bottom, and then Bottom enters and tells them to get ready for the play. The resolution of the play is Act 5 scene 1 and what happens is that Bottom and the others put on their play. The play is basically about what happened in the forest to all of them. The people loved the play. After the play was done Oberon, Titania and the fairies sing.
Puck tells them that their dreams were real life. Some of the differences between the play and the movie was that in the play it states that “the fairy king and queen Oberon and Titania blessed the couple Theseus and Hippolyta at their wedding.” And what that tells me is that they both actually liked each other but in the movie you could clearly see that Hippolyta was clear held captive and against her will by Theseus. Another difference in that in the movie Theseus was like a dictator figure while in the play he was a noble king.
And one last difference is that in the movie Theseus doesn’t die but in the movie Theseus dies. My opinion on which version I love better I would have to go with the movie. I would go with the movie because I am a more visual when it comes to understanding something, because in my opinion Shakespeare is hard to understand and sometimes hard to understand what he is trying to say.
Another reason I liked the movie better is because the movie was funny then the play, because when I was reading the play I didn’t laugh once not even in my head but when I watched the movie I actually had a couple of laughs. So in conclusion you know have a petty good understanding of the play and movie.
