They have said the water is life, and they were correct indeed. With approximately 70 percent of the Earth’s cover is water, it’s also surely are one of our best resources. When we were young students, we learned about the different ways in which water can be conserved; come to think of it, water is used in almost every significant human activity and operation. This is an important component in both domestic and industrial applications. Even so, a closer inspection of our water supplies today gives us a surprise.

Water pollution is defined as a level of toxic chemicals and biological agents in groundwater where it exceed what is naturally found in water and could pose a threat to human health and/or the environment. Additionally, as a result of various human activities, water contamination can consist of chemicals added into the water sources. Any amount of those chemicals is contaminating the water, regardless of what harm they can do to human health and the environment.

What Are the Causes of Water Pollution?

The pollution sources are all caused by the dumping of chemical compounds from medical, industrial, and household waste, the dumping of volatile agricultural fertilizers, and unintentional oil spills that pollute the water to a large extent.

For that, Water is considered as the “universal solvent,” and it can dissolve more compounds on Earth than any other liquid.

What types of water pollution?

Water pollution happens in many ways as water comes from many sources. Some types of water pollution are as follows

  1. Nutrients Pollution.
  2. Surface water pollution
  3. Oxygen Depleting
  4. Ground water pollution
  5. Microbiologica
  6. Suspended Matter
  7. Chemical Water Pollution
  8. Oil Spillage

BP Oil Drain in 2010 More than 1000 animals, including those already on the endangered species list, have been confirmed dead (birds, turtles, mammals). Only about 6 percent of animals affected by the spill have been washed, but many biologists and other scientists expect that they too will die from pollution-related

Did the COVID-19 effect of water pollution?

The coronavirus pandemic is shutting down industrial activity and reducing the water contamination rate across the world temporarily.
Below are some examples of improved aquatic environments around the world.

Clean beaches

Beaches are some of the most important natural capital assets found in the coastal areas. They provide facilities that are important to the survival of coastal communities and have intrinsic values that must be protected from over-exploitation, but unaccountable use by people has caused many beaches worldwide to present pollution problems.
The lack of tourists due to the new coronavirus pandemic induced a drastic shift in the appearance of many beaches around the world as a result of social distancing measures. For example, beaches like Acapulco (Mexico), Barcelona (Spain) or Salinas (Ecuador) now look cleaner and crystal clear.

The Waterways

From perfectly clear waters in the Venice canals to dramatic declines in rates of pollution in large urban areas, the coronavirus pandemic has had many beneficial effects on nature as millions of people around the world are being locked up.

The crowds of holiday-makers that normally crowd the Venice canals are gone and the quantity of motorboats has decreased tremendously.
As a result, the normally contaminated waters of the canals are more clear than whenever numerous local people can remember.

“The waterway is certainly more clear, you simply need to take a gander at the trench when water is extremely quiet. There are no boats, there’s no traffic, it is certainly cleaner,” said Serguei Michtchenk, Venice resident.
It is just one of the potentially positive impacts of the coronavirus pandemic on the environment.

Oceans

Michelle Fournet, a marine ecologist at Cornell who studies acoustic ecosystems, hopes to place underwater microphones off the coast of Alaska and Florida, where she has observed humpback whales and much other marine life, to explore how much the waters have improved in the absence of noise from cruise ships as the industry is halting operations around the world. “The pulling out of these cruise vessels of the water will almost instantly reduce the volume of global ocean noise,” Four net told me “We are having an unperceived break in the Oceano-noise that we probably have not seen in decades, the researches have shown that the ambient noise from ships and other maritime can increase stress- hormone levels among marine creatures” that could influence their reproductive success.

Whales have also shown that they can accommodate the din, stop singing when cargo ships come close and resume when they pass away.
The North Pacific humpback whales, which started to migrate north this month and soon will be swimming on the south-east side of Alaska with newborn balds, also common with cargo ships, are now the focus of Fournet ‘s thought. “In Southeast Alaska for bucking whales, this is the cleanest entry in the decades,” Fournet said.” While we rest hold our own, nature breathes.”

Rivers

Amid Lockdown: Delhi Jal Board, Yamuna River’s Waters “Look Clearer.”

After the end of either the chemical pollution and pollutants in the Delhi Jal Governing board, Raghav Chadha says that this has certainly had a strong impact on the quality of the water throughout the Yamuna River.

New Delhi: The pin-down of Delhi-NCR agricultural installations has brought a significant rise in the water quality and hazardous waste and effluent washouts of the Yamuna River have not been dumped into the Yamuna, according to Delhi Jal Committee vice-chairman Raghav Chadha

The storage of business pollutants and industrial waste has certainly had a positive effect on water quality, which we are visiting perform monitoring water to work out the proportion of quality improvements, Mr. Chadha said. There are almost several industries and organizations which are closed down and Yamunas are now pure.

The lockdown tells us it’s possible, however, that this can not remain intact forever, “he says,” Beneath the guidance of Arvind Kejriwal (Delhi Chief Minister), we assured the easy Yamuna.

A citizen of Delhi, he said. “Water looks plenty cleaner within the Yamuna today.

Experts say that the water quality of the Ganga has also improved significantly.

We’ve seen a 40-50 percent improved performance within the Ganga. this can be an exciting development.”

Finally, The disposal of chemical substances, medical, industrial and household waste, the disposition of chaotic agricultural fertilizer as well as the products of accidental oil spills that pollute the water to a significant extent seem to be the major sources of water pollution. https://www.environmentalpollutioncenters.org/water/
Even if water contamination stays a fundamental issue, sediment reduction is good for humans and for the water creatures as many are visual predators and also depend on clearer water to find a life partner and their food.
