Christopher Columbus was a navigator and explorer, who was famous for his voyage from Spain to the Americas in 1492. He was the first European explorer to ever discover America, and prove that the world is round. Following Columbus’ arrival, the Columbian Exchange allowed new discoveries of foods, plants, animals, and diseases to be exchanged between the Americans and Europeans. Many people are trying to get rid of Columbus Day, and argue that the Columbian Exchange was a negative factor on our world today. Although the Columbian Exchange had some negative aspects, such as slave trade and disease; I believe that the Columbian Exchange allowed new discoveries that were extremely beneficial to history and our world today.
Columbus’ voyage was the first heroic steps into new discoveries and great, new, democratic societies. Discoveries, such as corn and pigs, would not have been accessible to us today if it weren’t for the Columbian Exchange. The Columbian Exchange allowed items such as tobacco, pizza, avocados, horses, and cows, and many more to be traded, and improve life in America to its modern state. Not only were the discoveries beneficial, but Columbus’ voyage also allowed a “new life” on America for Europe and countries everywear. Even if Christopher Columbus failed on his voyage and never found america, we would eventually discover it with the technology we have today.
