I am a fulltime student enrolled at the University Of Houston. Academically, I am planning on obtaining my bachelor’s in biochemistry and attend Mcgovern Medical School. I am working towards my dream of becoming a physician with the ability to treat and connect with their patient. Everyone has been been to a doctor in their life, meaning medical professionals have a large impact on society. It is my desire to be a someone who can put a smile on people’s faces and give them peace of mind. It makes me euphoric to think that one day I will be waking up to a fulfilling career that puts others at the center of my work. However, I will need to continue to accumulate experience from multiple areas in order to make this dream into a reality.
After graduation, I plan on taking a gap year following my graduation. During my gap year, I will be pursuing a research position in computational biochemistry as I have a keen interest in the applications of computer science in biochemical studies. Advancements in the medical field have been possible thanks to studies in computational biochemistry and biology and I would like to gain some experience in this field as it may open more doors and possibilities in the future. I also have my eye on the summer research programs offered by MD anderson, a hospital has been ranked #1 for cancer care in USA. Living in the houston area has given me an opportunity to volunteer at the largest medical center in the world, and I will definitely pursue other positions and programs there in the future.
During this gap year, I also plan to volunteer and shadow at the hospital universitario virgen de las nieves in spain. Ever since childhood, I wanted to travel the world. I continue to have an ever growing infatuation with all of the places and all of the cultures that surround us and I think the diversity in our world is one of the most beautiful things in this world. As an aspiring physician, it will not only be expected to treat patients but also understand and build a connections with them. It has been my goal since childhood to learn and experience more and traveling abroad will give me that opportunity. It is important for medical professionals to demonstrate cultural understanding and acceptance which I can gain through individual experiences in other cultures. In my future career as a physician, I hope to utilize my own international experiences to cultivate a culturally immersive settings for all of my future patients and set an example for others. It is my hope to immerse myself in different cultures and garner enough experience so one day and to make any patient, foreign or local, feel welcome.

Accumulation of experience during my undergraduate years and my gap year will prepare me for my first year in medical school. Medical school will be the biggest stepping stone in order to achieve my dream and it will be a true test of perseverance and hard work.
