Many may not know about the ‘’Mexican-American war ‘’ or to Mexico known as the ‘’American invasion.’’ Even though it was in the late 1840s people still argue on who was justified . The two countries were fighting over Texas and Mexico did not accept that they wanted to be owned by America. That’s when it all started , Mexico started attacking and killing Americans just for land. America was most definitely justified in going to war with Mexico. Mexico killed American men on American territory, invaded American land, and for these casualties they had no other choice but to call on mexico to war. This was not acceptable to let Mexico take down there country.

The first reason the U.S was justified in going to war with Mexico was because Mexico shed blood [ killed innocent people] on the U.S soil . President James polk stated that Mexico crossed there boundary, has invaded all territory ,and shed blood upon American soil . This information pushes us to believe the U.S was being very generous and I believe being to nice to Mexico, Mexico was very bold for firing upon the U.S even though they came in peace. According to James Polk war message, “ [On the 24 of April] a party… of sixty-three men and officers , were … dispatched from the American camp up the Rio del Norte, on its [North] bank, to ascertain whether the Mexican troops has crossed , or were preparing to cross, the river…. [They] became engaged with a large body of these [Mexican] troops ,and, after a short affair , in which some sixteen [Americans] were killed and wounded, appear to have been surrounded and compelled to surrender…..”This shows that Mexico shed American blood on American soil. America could defend of retaliate on attack.

The second reason I believe the U.S was justified to go to war is because the united states wanted more land and wanted to expand more property into Mexico also called manifest destiny. Manifest destiny was god’s plan to expand American territory west. According to John L. O’Sullivan paper “Annexation,” “[O]ther nations have undertaken……hostile interference against us, …. Ham-pering our power, limiting our greatness and checking the fulfillment of our manifest destiny to overspread the continent allotted by providence [God] for the free development of our yearly multiplying millions.” Mexico was stopping the U.S from achieving God’s plan . Mexico did not accept our 15 million dollar offer to by New Mexico and California. This was also sent out as a peace treaty but they didn’t accept it. After some time the U.S finally had control over California, New Mexico, Texas and everything above the Rio Grande because of the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Most of this information was found on ‘’https://www.history.com/topics/mexican-american-war/mexican-american-wa’’. The treaty of guadalupe Hidalgo was to help each side and was signed by Mexico and the U.S in February 2, 1848 which ended the war. The treaty built an additional 525,000 square miles to the United States excluding the land that makes up all parts of present day era Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico ect; Do you think Mexico could have handled all this in a better way? The U.S did everything they needed to do and did it in the maturists way they had too.

The last reason the U.S was justified is because Mexico showed too much aggression and tensity against the U.S. America had every right to go to war. Think about it if your country was being threatened and your people were dying [innocent] what would you do? Mexico crossed the boundary which led to multiple lives lost, which they did many times. Mexico completely cross there line and killed many people in different situations. You can find this information in the D.B.Q. and many of the passages we did . The U.S was being too nice. The U.S was not showing any aggression in the beginning or threatened Mexico in any way .

Many people start debates saying that the United States robbed Mexico. But that was not the case ,Texas made its choice as a whole annex to the US and mexico did not approve so they got angry . According to the principles of a just war you must have a just cause. Mexico invaded American territory by crossing texas borders and for this American can retaliate its land.

In conclusion to my reasons, America was justified in going to war with Mexico. Mexico killed american soldiers on american soil, invade American territory , and for these causes they had to call on mexico to war. America had no more than enough just reasons to defend their country and go to war . Mexico left them no other option.
