In the reading, “Sonny Blue,” on chapter 1, 70-71 Isabella, the wife of Sonny had known his situation for the past five years he went away because of the demons in which inflicted him on the inside him internally and externally casting as he was of nothing to the outside world. In Sonny’s goodbye letter to Isabella, his mother, and brother he knew it would mean more to them than not because he gave them the best life, world experience, and a peaceful state of mind to escape his darkest inner ideas. The reason why Sonny’s character was a distinct relative person but, Also to his family all the same. I think that Sonny was trying to take his life in a different direction one that was filled with peace, clarity, and amendment for all the relationships that had been broken between both him and his people.
The internal feelings that Sonny’s brother was trying to privately express to him in a heavy conversation in chapter 1, 70-40 was when they were in Brooklyn at a bar and his brother says to him, “he does not want to die, he wants to live,” (James Baldwin, “Sonny Blue,” 40). This quote give insight about Sonny’s feeling of being invisible to his brother in a public setting because when he was surrounded by people who were familiar known him to be living. It will be hard to come to grips with his emotions of truth that he had endured while opening-up to his brother and he may have to face these quiet thoughts later-on. These emotions expressed by Sonny were of awkwardness and fear of his inner thoughts as to what he would say to another person directly because his mind had another agenda.
The description of Sonny and his brother’s childhood birthplace in which they lived as a family before they developed into working adults who moved on to live their own realities which initials working a ten to twelve hour job, paying bills, supplying your own food sources, and buying or renting a house in the projects to be independent adults in the workforce. On the other-hand the old place in name is ,110th street, Lenox Ave and as Sonny and his brother are cruising down memory lane his brother knew of this specific street to be familiar to him because it looked as he described, “A parody of the good, clean, and faceless life,” (James Baldwin, “Sonny Blue, 73). My idea of the Housing Projects would be of a smooth setting in which the homestyle it would have been a peaceful and calm way of living if I had bought or rented a house in the projects.
The relationship with Sonny and relatives is as I would describe building up brotherhood because of their conflicts living with one another, they sometimes become annoyed with each other. When a bonded connection between two relatives start to divide it is hard to come back in peace and unity that both Sonny and his brother once shared because of their past experiences. Maybe it was of two different ways of living. For most recent times on the second meeting in seven years when Sonny and his brother meets up back in Harlem, New York and starts to conversate about the good old days his brother goes on to say, “ The life whatever it was, has made him older and thinner and it had deepened the distant stillness in which he had always move, he looked very unlike my baby brother,” (James Baldwin, “Sonny Blue,” 72). This passage in reaction given by Sonny’s brother was an expression of surprise in physical change he saw directly as he and Sonny kept in contact to be closer with one another.
In the second passage that support Sonny’s brother explanation as to why he left in page 72 of chapter 1 he says, “Yet, when he smiled, when we shock hands, the baby brother I’d never known locked out from the depths of his private life,” (James Baldwin, “Sonny Blue,” 54). The evidence given is from Sonny’s point of view when they meet again in New York and being in each other’s presence made his brother be in the moment as they shock hands to let Sonny know that he is forgiven. In my opinion base on the reading Sonny’s brother felt seeing him was going to be difficult to face him again but, he knew that was his biological brother because he was recognizable to him. In addition, being in a family unit again
The perception of the child’s mindset opens when Sonny, his brother, mother, and church guest are at his house as they are sitting in the living room and conversating about life in the modern times the attention as well as pressure is pierced on the one child. The passage that support’s the child’s logic in an adult world begins when Sonny says, “Everyone is looking at in by the adult’s perspective because they are informed about the child’s secret which is why he gives off a negative reaction because of his innocence and not knowing. In my opinion the young boy was just being a boy. The second passage that gives the child’s perspective as to why he already knows this bad news is based around the conversation about what is the issues in the world today.
Then Sonny says in reply, “The silence, the darkness coming, and the darkness in the faces (Of the adults) frightens the child obscurely,” (James Baldwin, “Sonny Blue,”75). This passage gives evidence to support the child’s idea as to why the adults that are presence in the room looked down on him with questionable faces. The child logic is of darkness that heaps upon the people because he thinks of himself apart from the adults who is scolding him as an innocent but, negative person by the reaction given off. The reason why for him not only out of innocence is because he must have not understood clearly the important issues in the world today. This goes on to explain the child’s obscurity when the adults gazed at him out of disgust
