In the novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelley, the author, portrays a mad scientist named Victor Frankenstein, which his goal was to successfully create life. When he finally succeed, he is frighten, and ran away from his creation. The next day, when he saw that the monster was gone, he was relieved. Little did he know, his creation would go on and seek revenge on him. The moral issues of Victor were how he created the monster and when he abandon him.
When he starts his project, he collects body parts of dead human remains in immoral ways (by digging them out in graves). In his mind, he thought he was doing the right thing, bring dead parts to life. But, in most places, it is illegal to dig out cadavers from the dirt. In chapter 4, he states that: “A new species would bless me as its creator and source; many happy and excellent natures would owe their being to me.(Page 54)”. Judging by this states, you can concluded that Victor Frankenstein passion for creating new life has made him arrogant.
Furthermore, when his creature comes to life, he is terrified of what he has created and flees to his bedchamber. Since it was his creation, the monster sees Victor as a father to him, and when he sees that he has been abandoned, he starts to show some symptoms of an abandoned child such as feeling that he is worthless and unsafe. For instance, he is alienated from the town he was wondering in, looking for some food which end up getting him chased out to the wilderness. He shows fear when he sees a human approaching him. For all the problems the monster encounters, he blames Victors for it and seeks revenge on him, by killing everyone that Victor loved.
Although Victor’s creation was heavily neglected the day he came to life, this raised a philosophical issue. Is revenge ever the moral thing to do? In this case, justice was justifiable in this situation because Victor had many opportunities of stop the monster, if not by completing its request for another monster like him to love and keep him company, he could of told his family the trust about the monster. But, because of Victors arrogance, the monster ends up killing his relatives and best friend.
