The Greek play “Antigone” by Greek tragedian Sophocles illustrates comparing of two main characters, Antigone and Creon. The play is really messed up and confusing for the person who has never read about Greek mythology. Creon, the king of Thebes, is a cruel and tyrannical dictator who thinks that he is God. Antigone, one of the three children of Oedipus and Jocasta, just and fair princess who is a great speaker as well. Antigone and Creon had an argument because of the death of Polyneices, brother of Antigone. Creon doesn’t let anyone bury him because he thinks he is a traitor but Antigone tried to bury him which made a huge speech on both sides. Antigone was the most effective speaker while she uses rhetoric such as pathos to persuade the audience that she is just/godly and to show Creon that he is becoming a tyrant.

To start, Antigone is a greek tragedy play written in or before 441 BC. The play is loaded with tons of rhetoric and figurative language. Antigone, one of the main characters, is a mentally strong woman who goes against everyone, especially The King Creon. Creon is a narcissistic and tyrannical person who thinks that he is God. He thinks that he is all-powerful and everyone must be afraid of him and obey him. However, Antigone is the only one who is not scared of Creon, she wants to “re-educate” him so he will never do the same mistakes. The author made Antigone independent and strong that the reader will love her from the first “meeting”. Polyneices, one of the children of Oedipus and Jocasta, was called a traitor of Thebes because we asked the Argos government to help him attack his own city Thebes, but it was not successful. Creon ordered not to bury Polyneices, it was a kind of punishment for the traitor.

Obviously, Antigone was against it because she is the sister of Polyneices, so she went to him and started bury which was illegal. She got caught by the guards and was sent to Creon to make her final sentence. While talking with Creon, Antigone said, “Then let me go, since all your words are bitter, And the very light of the sun is cold to me”(Sophocles). Antigone wants to show herself that she is strong and not scared of Creon, which makes a really big influence on the reader’s attitude to Antigone. There is no way that the reader’s favorite character would be Creon because Antigone figuratively killed Creon with her powerful rhetoric speech which really confused and stuck Creon, he was shocked. Antigone’s attitude makes the audience be loyal to her and trust her till the end of the play.

Antigone believes that Polyneices is not a traitor and must be buried which is really humanly which, obviously makes the reader feel warm and stay agree with Antigone. Antigone also accepts what she has done, and takes her death which is very just. She is not scared of telling the truth, the truth that literally kills her. Not everyone can do this because Creon is a tyrant, he is violent and doesn’t like it when someone doesn’t obey him and his rules. Only crazy people would like Creon’s terrible and dictator character that destroys himself as a leader and a human, however, he thinks that he is the God.

In addition, Antigone uses rhetoric to show Creon that he is becoming a tyrant. After becoming the king of Thebes, Creon starts getting selfish and tyrannical person while he decides not to bury Polyneices and just let him decompose.
