The title of this movie is called Nowhere Mind. This movie is about a young man named Ivan who has schizoaffective disorder. He is a part-time grad student that studies the idea of meditation and how it can help one master the mind and body. Hoping this will help him deal with his mental affliction, Ivan began to take the practices and theories to heart. He stopped taking his medications and became more depressed. He would feel the need or pressure to escape because of the pressure he hears around him. During Ivans first meetings with his psychiatrist, she asked him what was his most afraid of or scares him, and his response was “my mind going or forgetting who I am and who I used to be’’. I chose this movie because it shows an illness that is very less known in society. Although schizoaffective disorder is not commonly known, it is not different from schizophrenia and bipolar because it can all lead to serious consequences.
This movie represents psychology as a form of balance in a person’s life. With psychology, Ivan’s mother and psychiatric were able to understand him even though they knew about his illness. Emily was also able to build an interactive and flirtatious relationship with Ivan. John, on the other hand, was only able to understand all of Ivan’s theories after he had murdered him. It was also pleasing to observe the importance of psychology in an individual’s life. In a person’s life, there are at least ⅓ of people that understand you through your words and actions. Most times it is usually the people closest to you that understand you the most.
The movie, however, is not very informative on how serious and challenging this illness or disorder is, it basically focuses on how a person deals with it. There were too many gaps left for the audience to decipher which could make it hard for an average person to understand. An example could be when Ivan agreed to go for the hiking trip with John his old college roommate. Ivan thought that going on this trip would help him do a lot of meditations. However

The character in this movie did not make any recovery because he was murdered. John had found out during the hiking trip that Ivan and Emily his fiancee was having an affair. Due to rage and jealously, he buried Ivan and went out of the forest to report to the police that Ivan had gone missing.
