The person I most admire is my mother, Virginia Alicea. I’m not just saying this because she’s my mother- anyone can be a mother, but it takes a strong person to be a parent. Her personality has taught me how to love others the way you want to be love. All of the obstacles my mother has had to overcome just amazes me. What I admire most about my mother is all things that she has done for me and all that she has given me.
My mother is a true character with a personality that’s filled with love. I would consider my mother to be very caring. For example, when my best friend had no place to stay my mother took her in; she feed her, provided her attire, and treated her like one of her own. It takes a person with a good heart to take someone in that they barely even know and give them a home. She believes that if there is room and she has the money, why not help someone in need. Her kindness towards strangers makes my admiration for her even more special. I consider my mother to be a big worrier. She calls me about eight times a day; however, I still live with her, so I see her at home everyday. My question is why is this lady calling me again? Simply because she cares and wants to make sure that I am okay. Another strong characteristic about my mom is her compassion. She has the ability to sympathize with anyone because of her own experiences. Her way of expressing love to others is what has me in awe.
As an adolescent my mother had to overcome many obstacles. For instance, at the age of thirteen she was forced to drop out of school to support her family. At the age of seventeen, my mother and her brother decide to move to the United States for a better opportunity. Things weren’t easy for my mother when she arrived to the states; coming from Puerto Rico my mother didn’t speak a word of English, but somehow she managed. She decided to go back to school and take some English courses. Shortly after that she became pregnant with my older sister Doris which didn’t make things any easier. My mother struggled to make ends meat, but somehow she pulled through. Before I was born, my mother and father separated making my mother a single parent. Although she had to work forty hours a week sacrificing her love life, social life, and spiritual life she never once complained. She has done a wonderful job raising my siblings and me all on her own. This is why my admiration for her is so strong.
What I admire most about my mother is all that she has done and given to me. Although it’s a mother’s job to provide for their children my mother has done that and more. Growing up my mother was very involved with my education. For example, she attended each and every one of my teacher-parent conferences, open house, and even some field trips. She has always been on top of me with school and made sure I never missed a day class. Although as a child I hated school, but as I got older I finally came to senses. I admire my mother’s admiration towards education because I know how much it means to her.
My mother has taught me to value my education because she was never given the opportunity to have one, so why take mine for granted. The biggest thing my mother has done for me was giving me the opportunity to have a career rather than a job. As of right now she is paying for me to have the education that she was denied. As one can see my admiration for my mother is because of her loving personality, the obstacles she overcome, and most importantly all that she has done and given for me. My mother has influenced, motivated, and inspired me for that better and for that reason I will continue to admire her.
