Introduction
Frida Kahlo is a revolutionary Latin American artist and is widely known for her paintings. She is very famous for self-portraits, and her paintings are very personal. The intimate and symbolic nature of her paintings made them difficult to contextualize and interpret. The most of her paintings revolve around two major events of her life. One was a traumatic divorce with her husband and second was fatal bus accident in teen age. Most of her paintings is clear depictions of physical wounds and injuries. This accident made her suffer throughout her life and inculcated pain and agony in her life (Richman, 2017).
Themes Depicted by Frida
She has explored several themes in her art work from her concerns about her ancestry and heritage to her efforts with childlessness and femininity. The Christian and Jewish themes have also been observed in her paintings. Her paintings are a clear depiction of classic religious traditions and cultural contexts of Mexico (BIOGRAPHY OF FRIDA KAHLO, n.d.).
Frida’s Style
The Frida’s followers can easily identify the art piece by Frida as he was fond of nature and always used vibrant colours in her paintings. Her dark eye brows, colourful dresses, flowers in her hair was a clear depiction of her love for nature. She has advocated a close linkage between animals and humans by portraying monkeys and other animals in her paintings (Looking at Frida Kahlo As A Global Icon, n.d.).

My Favourite Art Piece
Frida Kahlo’s self-portrait with thorn necklace and humming bird painted by her in 1940 is one of my most favourite art pieces. It is one of h
er most popular self-portraits due to its context and symbolic nature. This art piece was created after her divorce and therefore considered as a clear depiction of her emotional state at that time. In the painting, she is standing in front of greenery and between an annoying panther and a monkey as she and her husband used to keep many pets including monkey which served as a substitute for children. She had worn a necklace of thorn around her neck with stoic expressions, thus highlighting her strength to cope with extreme pain and stress. The calm approach to pain and agony is typically related to Khalo’s paintings (Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo: Portraits of a very modern marriage, 2011).
Comparison of Frida’s Work With Other Artists of Similar Styles
The basic difference between Frida and Rivera is that Frida painted on canvas and she painted herself while Rivera painted about his people and made murals or made big paintings on walls. Rivera painted Mexican Revolution and gave shape and colour to socialists. On the other hand, Frida painted her emotions, thoughts, and perceptions.
Exhibition of her Work
She was firstly exhibited in France in 1939 in Paris. The Louvre was the first one who bought her paintings. This was the first time the 20th century Mexican art was purchased by the international museum. After her death, La Cas Azul: The Blue House is the museum which has been reserved for displaying her paintings. It is unfortunate that her paintings were displayed in more proper fashion and gained more fame after her death. Frida’s Favourite Piece: Frida’s “self Portrait as Tehuana or Diego in my Thoughts” was one of her paintings. It is one of Frida’s favourite paintings in which she is wearing formal laced headgear. Symbolically, the paintings showed the emotions and love for her husband as it was made eight years after her marriage.

To conclude Frida was marvellous Mexican artist who painted her thoughts and perceptions and depicted Mexican culture and traditions in a beautiful manner.
