Vaping is the new trend for smoking tobacco. “ Although the product is advertised as a way to quit smoking tobacco, there is still nicotine in the liquid, which makes it addictive.” Comparing the difference between vaping and smoking cigarettes such as the attraction like the taste and the names of the liquids. I will also be talking about how we as parents can guide our kids into not taking that road which in the long run leads to cancer. There is an attraction to vaping through the taste and catchy names of the different liquids. As parents we always want the best for our kids, so therefore allowing them to do such a thing will be detrimental to their health and most likely lead then to cancer.
The vaping devices are extremely dangerous and can cause third degree burns if it reaches a high level of temperature which causes the device to explode. There will also be some personal life experiences that myself has been through regarding smoking not only the vaporizer but cigarettes as well to help whoever might be battling with this issue. My overall goal is to help people realize that even though smoking might seem cool at the time it takes a big toll on a person’s health later on in life which to me is not worth all the unnecessary pain it comes with. Majority of teens who use vaping devices say that they enjoy doing tricks with the vapor, such as blowing smoke rings or creating funnels of smoke that look like tornadoes. Combinations of tricks is one of the top two reasons why teens enjoy Vaping.
Through personal experiences I have realized how dangerous vaping and smoking cigarettes may be for someone’s health. From these experiences I would like to help people lead a healthier life. Teens who vape say that they enjoy it because of the tricks they are able to do with the smoke and the flavors that they come up with taste great, Researchers at Yale School of Medicine found out about teens doing the tricks with the smoke from a vape through a survey they took.
They asked 5,400 teens from Connecticut to explain what they found cool about vaping and discovered that they do tricks.“We expected the flavors were attractive,” said researcher Suchitra Krishnan-Sarin. “But smoke tricks were a surprise to us.” Vaping can be adjusted to operate at high temperatures to produce more vapor and much more clouds. Teens are increasingly becoming interested in “cloud competitions,” like who can blow the biggest clouds in which adults compete to perform the best vaping tricks. (Lastname, pg#/paragraph#)
but what they don’t acknowledge is that the dangers of owning a vape are vast, such as giving them a third degree burn from exploding or causing health issues in their life.
The findings about vapor tricks come from a study by researchers at Yale School of Medicine. The Yale team asked 5400 Connecticut teens to explain what they found cool about Vaping..

These events are becoming a regular feature at local vape shops especially the vape shop in waianae and kapolei. Some regional competitions offer thousands of dollars in prize money which causes more people to compete knowing now that they can win cash. Although minors are barred from competing in the events, some vape shops allow them to be part of the audience.
Teens are also learning about the tricks through videos posted on YouTube where i also see a lot of people especially teens doing these tricks with the vaping devices. “Even if teenagers don’t attend these events they are exposed to a lot of these issues. One of the main reasons i believe teens vape is because of the flavors which causes them to have a certain taste for it like how most teens are attracted to candy.
Say for instance when a new flavor hits stores everyone including teens and adults run rampid to the vape shops to test out the new flavors. Hawaiian Breeze E-Juice is the smooth flavor of pineapple with other sweet tropical flavors. Reminiscent of a delicious margarita, your mind will begin to drift away to a caribbean paradise.
Vapor Vapes’ in-house flavor expert creates Hawaiian Breeze with a light and refreshing taste in mind which to me is another way to attract their audience. You’ll enjoy the great flavors of pineapple, strawberry, and citrus. Here are some of the names of the juices that are in stores now, Dragon Fruit, Black Cherry, Watermelon, Grape and Kiwi. https://vaporvapes.com/product/e-liquids/cocktail-e-liquid/hawaiian-breeze-e-juice/
Another attraction is these mods also have lights on them so when you take a hit the device lights up and makes the device look cool especially in the dark. What most people don’t understand is that vaping is a highly addictive substance and has side effects such as Dry mouth, Dizziness, Cough, Dry skin, Dry eyes, Insomnia and Nose bleeds.
There are also many different types of smoking devices such as the Suorin Air, Suorin Drop and the Vape Mod. The company that advertises these devices is called Juul which is an electronic cigarette company which was created and started off by the Pax Labs in 2017. Pax Labs is an American electronic vaporizer company founded in 2007 that markets the pax vaporizers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAX_Labs There were also people getting seriously injured while smoking these vaping devices.
According to a reports which is part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, there were at least 195 incidents in which vaping mods exploded or caught on fire from 2009 through 2016, that is really spooky considering that there are teens involved and the outcome show 133 injuries, 38 of which were severe. But there were no recorded deaths in the study’s period. https://www.insurancejournal.com/news/southeast/2018/05/22/490041.htm
The explosions mostly occur suddenly, like a spare of the moment. the report found and are accompanied by loud noise, a flash of light, smoke, flames, and often vigorous ejection of the battery and other parts which is crazy when that’s the one thing you would not expect to happen.
More than half of the total incidents, 128, included fires started on nearby objects. I’ve recently asked my friend if smoking the device is highly addictive and he said yes. He also said that one day when he was at work he ran out of liquid for his vape and ended up smoking a real cigarette.
So my overall opinion on vaping is I would not recommend it to anyone do to the fact that it’s highly addictive and extremely dangerous.
Tobacco products like cigarettes on the other hand has its own attractions and to me will always be a gateway to alcohol and other mood changing and mind altering substances. The tobacco industries try to make it more attractive each day like making some of them taste a lot like mint so that the users have a sense of taste.
Majority of people do it to get a buzz out of it which causes them to feel light headed. Back when I was 8 years old I remember the gum packs that the stores use to sell and they made it to where it was bubble gum but in a stick form. I remember taking the bubble gum stick out and it would have this powder on it so i would put it to my lips and blow and the powder would shoot out of it looking exactly like smoke.
That’s when I first got the idea of how cool I would look if I smoked an actual cigarette.
To help prevent our kids from smoking and using chewing tobacco, we can keep these guidelines in mind:
When able we can talk about it in a way that doesn’t make our kids fear judgement or punishment.
It’s important to keep talking to our kids over the years about the dangers of tobacco use. Even our youngest child can understand that smoking is bad for the body.
Ask what our kids find appealing — or unappealing — about smoking. Be a patient listener.
Always encourage our kids to get involved in activities that prohibit smoking, such as sports.
Show that we value your kids’ opinions and ideas.
Discuss ways to respond to peer pressure to smoke. Your child may feel confident simply saying ‘no.’ But also offer alternative responses such as ‘It will make my clothes and breath smell bad’ or ‘I hate the way it makes me look.’
Emphasize what kids do right rather than wrong. Self-confidence is a child’s best protection against peer pressure.
Encourage our kids to walk away from friends who don’t respect their reasons for not smoking.
Explain how much smoking governs the daily life of kids who start doing it. How do they afford the cigarettes? How do they have money to pay for other things they want? How does it affect their friendships?
Establish firm rules that exclude smoking and chewing tobacco from your house and explain why: Smokers smell bad, look bad, and feel bad, and it’s bad for everyone’s health. These techniques always seemed to work on me when I felt like i needed to start quitting.
Other signs of tobacco use include: Coughing, Throat irritation, Hoarseness, Bad breath, Decreased athletic performance, Getting more colds, Stained teeth and clothing ( also signs of chewing tobacco use) and last but not least shortness of breath.
Sometimes even the best foundation isn’t enough to stop our kids from experimenting when it comes to smoking. It may be tempting to get angry, but it’s better for us to focus on communicating with our children.
Here are some tips that may help us when it appears: Resist lecturing or turning our advice into a sermon. Let’s Find out what appeals to our children about smoking and we can talk about it honestly. Many times, kids aren’t able to appreciate how their current behaviors can affect their future health.
So let’s talk about the immediate downsides to smoking: less money to spend on things they like, shortness of breath, bad breath, yellow teeth, and smelly clothes. Let’s Stick to the smoking rules we’ve set up, and never let our children smoke at home just to keep the peace.
If you hear, ‘I can quit anytime I want,’ ask your child to show you by quitting cold turkey for a week to see if they really are serious. Try not to irritate them. Ultimately, quitting is the smoker’s decision. Help your son or daughter develop a quitting plan and offer information and resources, and reinforce the decision to quit with self control.
Stress the natural rewards that come with quitting: freedom from addiction, improved fitness, you can run longer, better athletic performance, and improved appearance like white teeth. Encourage a meeting with your doctor, who can be supportive and may have treatment plans. I personally as a parent put my child through multiple events of not only me but the mom also when it came to smoking cigarettes.
Cancer has a really big impact on society in the Hawaiian Islands and across the world. Cancer statistics describe what happens in large groups of people and provide a picture in time of the burden of cancer on society.
To me cigarettes do not discriminate and will kill anyone who wants to try. I was a smoker for 15 yrs and it took a toll on my life and the people around me and especially my family. Today I stand before you with three yrs clean and free from any and all mood changing-mind altering substances.
That’s why I strongly always encourage others around me to not smoke anything that has nicotine in it whether it be a mod or a cigarette. My grandma passed away from lung cancer and it was the most painfullest thing to watch.
Acute pain is due to damage caused by an injury and tends to only last a short time like what my grandma went through. For example having an operation can cause acute pain. The pain happens when the wound heals.
In the meantime, painkillers will usually keep it under control but you have to be really careful not to get addicted to prescription medications . Chronic pain is due to changes to the nerves. Nerve changes may be due to cancer pressing on nerves or due to chemicals produced by a tumour.
It can also be caused by nerve changes due to cancer treatment. Chronic pain continues long after the injury or treatment is over and can range from mild to severe. It can be there all the time. Sometimes pain can come on quickly, for example when you have a dressing changed or move around. This type of pain is called incident pain.
Chronic pain is also called persistent pain which my grandma also had to go through and it was so painful not only for her to go through but also me and the family. Pain can greatly affect your quality of life.
Chronic pain can make it hard for you to do everyday things such as bathing, shopping, cooking, sleeping and eating because it was very difficult to treat my grandma being that me and my brother was so young at the time.
This can be hard for your close friends and relatives to understand. You might need support to deal with how pain can affect you and your loved ones. My overall opinion on smoking cigarettes is and will always be not to even try it once due to the fact that it is extremely addictive and causes cancer.
