Why do most people believe that the worst behaviors of humans, such as torture, genocide, and slavery can be terminated? Genocide is killing a large group of people especially those of different race or nation and people who are against humanity liquidates a large group of people. This can be stopped by working together, speaking up, making human rights and genocide prevention core values in the u. s etc. But the real question is can it be stopped completely?
The first genocide started on April 6th 1994, up to 800, 000 Tutsis were killed by Hutu militia using clubs and machetes, with as many as 10, 000 killed each day. They would also invade many houses leaving people homeless. According to Charles C. Haynes In 2016 genocide is still occuring. ”The New Year begins, mass killings continue, and the United States government has yet to declare what is happening in Iraq and Syria “genocide”(Haynes, 1). Genocide has been going on for a long time now and I believe this is happening because most people has there humanity off meaning they no longer care or feel. Only infinitesimal amount of people can realize those who are in genocide need help.
Passages such as why genocide can’t be stopped and how it can, makes me wonder if it can or not. I believe it can be prevented just not everywhere. In the course of human history, the idea that such things can be prevented would seem unreasonable. Some may think we can’t stop genocide unless you kill civilians etc. That’s wrong, there are many ways we can help prevent genocide and studying it isn’t enough. Discussing genocide is necessary and should be everywhere.
The thought of witnessing brothers, sisters, mom, dads, friends, even strangers get murdered right in front of you is heartbreaking, terrifying and intimidating. (Most people would agree). Addressing the root causes of violence and conflict: hatred, intolerance, racism, discrimination, tyranny, and the dehumanizing public discourse that denies whole groups of people their dignity and their rights can be one step to help prevent genocide. Also, those responsible for such crimes need to be brought to justice. Fighting impunity and establishing a credible expectation that the perpetrators of genocide and related crimes will be held accountable can effectively contribute to prevention.
For an example, ¨While the case cannot be proven with certainty, Kenya in 2013 was a successful example of atrocity prevention and illustrates some important lessons to be learned. ¨ why should the rest of us stay muted at a time when we must stand up and stamp out any attempts by anyone to underplay the events of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi? Genocide is something that needs to be discussed. Together we need to speak up from wherever we are so that those who attempt to deny or simplify the events of 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi find that this world offers no room for such irresponsible and totally despicable views.
In 1937-1938 stalin used torture to make witnesses involved confess things the victims has not done. This relates to Animal farm because the pigs on the farm talked negatively about napoleon therefore they were targeted. The novel relates to stalin as (Napoleon)because napoleon has the pigs killed for tearing down the windmill. I came across a article about a women named Nishimwe. She had told a horrifying story of how she had survived the genocide. Her childhood was very happy, she said, but “I never expected that one day in a flash, this all changed and there would be a genocide, one of the worst in history. ” Later on Nishimwe father and brothers were killed however, her sister, mother and herself lived. She now hopes to inspire people to work together to prevent future genocide, because genocides don’t happen overnight.
In the book Night, Elie Wiesel uses many quotes that relates to crimes against humanity. On page 24 his says, “ from this moment on you are under the authority of the German army. Anyone who still owns gold, silver, or watches must hand them over now. Anyone who will be found to have kept these items will be shot on the spot, ”. At this point the Jews are being taken over by their government. They were being forced to hand their jewelry to the SS or they will die. This is similar to Burma ethnic cleansing and how the Muslims are being taken over by the Myanmar’s military. They have been persecuted by the Myanmar’s military during there years of authority. They are being forced out of their homes to go to either ill-prepared refugees camps or be killed. Also, ‘ human rights are being violated on every continent, More people are oppressed than free”(Wiesel, 199)
The Jews were being mistreated by the SS and the government. Therefore more people are worried than free. At this time the Jews were being forced into concentration camps and having to work against there will during the Holocaust. In the Burma ethnic cleansing the Rohingya are being forcibly removed from their neighborhoods. Both ethnicities have been forced to work, have been raped and separated from their families. On page 24 in the book Night Wiesel quotes “ If anyone goes missing, you will all be shot, like dogs”. The SS were treating the Jews like animals, trying to dehumanize them. During the Burma ethnic cleansing the Rohingya were being treated the same way. They were being shot and killed in their own neighborhood if they refused to leave. Both ethnicities have been mistreated and killed because of what they believe. These quotes shows that these people were treated badly and It’s wrong.
After All, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group. Genocide is not as rare as some people think. In fact, over the past century quite a number of episodes of genocide have occurred. We must come up with ways to prevent it and I feel it can be prevented as long as we come together and speak up. Make some changes. try to get some people humanity back because they no longer care. Genocide is wrong!!! Innocent children and people are being killed for no reason, and haven’t even committed a crime, so why must these people die. We all need to help stop genocide.
