The scene I chose from “The Other Wes Moore” was when the new girl, that Wes had met shortly after Alicia became pregnant was leaving his house in the middle of the night. As Wes was standing in his doorway he watched the girl leave his house to be immediately approached and yelled at by a man named Ray. After a few minutes past of Ray yelling at the girl he finally noticed Wes, as said in the book: “reached him in an instant, grabbed the back of his shirt collar, lifted him off the porch and slammed him.” and then he proceeded to punch Wes multiple times in the face. This inraged Wes and in return he ran inside his house, got his gun, picked up a friend from off the street, and chased Ray down shooting at him till they finally hit and killed him. I picked this scene because it really amazed me how much their “honor” meant to them and how far they would go to keep it.
First Ray with only knowing that the girl came out of Wes’s house instantly without a word started beating up Wes, and second Wes didn’t just fight back but ended up killing Ray and they hadn’t even known the other existed until that knight. Where we live this is seen to be crazy and nobody would really think about doing this where we live but the thing is was that where and when Wes was living this would be considered somewhat normal. Wes was taught at a young age by his own brother Tony that if someone messes with you you mess with them worse. This scene really reminded me of the hidden question in the book which was does environment affect a human.
