First, in 1984 the government can watch anyone at any time of the day. They had surveillance everywhere. The citizens of Oceania were watched by the government, by the police and on the telescreens. The police are hired by the government to watch the screens and catch if there is anyone who has committed crimes against the party. There are many types of crime. For example, not participating in activities, not enjoying the Party activities, thinking badly about the activities and sneaking out are some sort of crimes against the Party. The citizens had no privacy. They were even watched when they wake up, eat breakfast, when they were sleeping and also when they were in the bathroom. There were screens all over the place saying Big Brother is watching you. “In the far distance a helicopter skimmed down between the roofs, hovered for an instant like a bluebottle, and darted away again with a curving flight. It was the police patrol, snooping into people’s windows.” After reading this part of the book, we could understand that the citizens are being watched by patrols.
Winston is affected in a psychological way. He always has incorrect thoughts because he always writes down with Big Brother which is not allowed. Winston is very sacred that he might get caught. He is worried that the police might find out that he hates the party and come after him, because of this reason. “The thought police would get him just the same. He had committed–would have committed, even if he had never set pen to paper–the essential crime that contained all others. Thoughtcrime, they called it. Thoughtcrime was not a thing that could be concealed forever. You might dodge successfully for a while, even for years, but sooner or later they were bound to get you.” This part of the text is showing us of how strict is the Party regarding the thoughtcrimes. There is also Mr. Charrington who is an old widower. He is the one that sold journal to Winston. This person isn’t thirty-five years old like you think. He is 60 years old who is part of the Thought police. He is an undercover agent who works for the Party whose job is to supervise citizens. The only moment when Winston knew that Mr. Charrington was a member of the Thought police is when he got caught with Julia. That’s when he reveled himself. The secret police also try to eliminate intelligent people for a main reason. The smart might figure out how the Party is exploiting them.
Second, there is also secret police in Farmhouse. Animal farm is the inspired from the Russian Revolution. It is telling the story of the development of Soviet communism. The less powerful person (Snowball) is expelled from the revolutionary state by the upper power (The group of Napoleon). In this play, Napoleon got chased by the secret police. The secret police were the under kept dogs from Napoleon. After the dog’s mother passed away, Napoleon brought them in the farm upstairs. No one knew he had kept the dogs. He waited patiently till the dog grows and get’s big. Then, that’s how Snowball got chassed from the dogs and died from the dogs.

Third, both society is trying to live a “perfect life”, but both society has a different culture. I figured that in 1984, the government control the individual in a technological way by watching what they are doing in the screens. Also, the government in 1984 posted a quotation saying “Big Brother Is Watching You” under a picture. In my opinion, it is there to intimidate them. In Animal Farm, the pigs are the one who takes control of the farm. During the story, when the animals were working Napoleon said that there would be work on Sunday. He said it was voluntary. In 1984 and Animal Farm the government is able ton control any aspect. The different aspect I have noticed is the fact that both environment is different.
In Animal Farm, everything is happening in a farm. The pigs are trying to create a society where it is easy to control. It was easy for the pigs to control and supervise the rest of the animal. The animal that wanted to get away from the totalitarianism community knew how to deal with it. For example, there was a part when the three hens admitted that Snowball came into their dream. In 1984, it is more of a futuristic society where technology takes control. It is all based on technology, that’s how the government finds about Winston affair with Julia and about his thoughts on the government.
