Tobacco use remains the leading cause of death and preventable disease in the United States. On the other hand, some people may say they use tobacco for weight loss, others for stress management.  Tobacco is a drug that is cut leaves from the tobacco plant that are rolled into thin paper for smoking. Tobacco can be use as a stimulator for emotional stability. Smoking lowers risk of knee-replacement surgery. Although, Tobacco has a several disadvantages such as tobacco product cost, health, and addiction. Although Tobacco can help user at that moment, Tobacco long term negatives effect far outweigh the positives.

If users would cut out all tobacco uses, they can save hundreds of dollars in a month. 1 pack of cigarettes contains 20 cigarettes. According to this statistic 91% of respondents said they smoked 20 or fewer per day, an average cost of 1 pack of cigarettes is about $5.17. So, smokers are spending about $40 a week. In one-year smokers spend an Average of $2,000.

As for smokeless tobacco, dip can be pretty pricey as well. According to this article “A can of dip costs an average of nearly $3. A two-can-a-week habit costs about $300 per year. A can-a-day habit costs nearly $1,100 per year. Likewise, chewing tobacco costs about $2. A pouch-a-day habit costs over $700 a year.” (Delta dental). If smokers added up the money spent on tobacco it is a lot within time.

Smokers are not only paying for their cigarettes they’re also paying for an addiction as well. Tobacco can be very addicting because of the potent stimulant called Nicotine. Addiction is the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma (dictionary). Nicotine is the substance that make tobacco addicting.

When a cigarette is bunt the nicotine is inhaled and enters the bloodstream through the lungs and reaches the brain within 10 seconds of inhaling. nicotine dependence and nicotine withdrawal are two medically defined disorders in tobacco addiction. Nicotine dependence is when user think they still need it and continue the use of tobacco despite the negative health outcomes of its use. Nicotine withdrawal are symptoms of nervousness, restlessness, irritability, anxiety and poor concentration when user doesn’t have drug in there system. Addiction is so storing no matter the negative effects tobacco cause smokers still feel like they need it and they continued to buy it.

This addiction causes a number of health problems by negatively affecting the heart, lungs, eyes, nose, throat, mouth, skin, male and female reproductive systems, breasts, bones, blood and digestive system and is a known contributing factor to several types of cancer (sauron.highlands.edu:2076/ps/i.do?p=AONE&u=highlands_edu&id=GALE%7CA217319148&v=2.1&it=r&sid=ebsco&authCount=1). Tobacco smoke contains more than 7,000 chemicals, at least 70 of which are known to cause cancer. There are up to 30 chemicals in smokeless tobacco that are known to cause cancer.

Tobacco can cause a lot of blood vessel problems such as: Blood clots, and coronary artery disease, it can also cause weakness in the walls of blood vessels in the brain, which can lead to stroke. Some smokers who switch to smokeless tobacco thinking it another route other then quitting still will have health risks. Smokeless tobacco can increase risk of cancer of the mouth, tongue, esophagus, and pancreas. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, most deaths resulting from tobacco smoking occurred in people aged 65 years or more. (Better health) Cancer was the number one cause of tobacco-related death in 57% men and 51% in women (better health). Tobacco contain one chemical called nicotine and that is what causes addiction.

Although people do think smoking has it benefits. User says nicotine makes them have a pleasant feeling and distracts them from unpleasant feelings. This makes the tobacco user want to use more. Tobacco acts on the chemistry of the brain and central nervous system, affecting the smoker’s mood. Nicotine acts as any other addicting drugs, by rushing brains with a chemical called dopamine. Dopamine is a chemical in your brain that affects your emotions, movements and your sensations of pleasure and pain. Nicotine also gives a little bit of an adrenaline rush to speed up the heart and raise blood pressure. Smoking also have some health benefits like lower knee replacements, lowers risk of Parkinson’s disease, and lowers risk of obesity.

On the end note, tobacco may have some advantages but there definitely a lot more disadvantages. Tobacco can be a very serious problem to your health and can lead to a shorten life. The more you use tobacco the more addictive it gets and the harder it is for user to quit. Which leads to Smokers and dipper to keep spending money while if they quit they can save a lot of money if they eliminated the spending on tobacco. Tobaccos is a Today our society would be more of a better place without the use of Tobacco.
