The most popular search engine worldwide is Google. Google provides web services, email services, and various other online tools that have made our working and personal life much easier. Alphabet is the parent company of Google. They operate by their mission, vision and core values. But what makes Google Google? The People Operations.
Google calls its HR department People Operations, though most people in the firm shorten it to POPS. Google monitors its employees’ well-being and productivity through a long annual survey form called the Googlegeist. For the fourth consecutive year, Fortune magazine named Google as the best company to work for. Google’s POPS nurtures its creative and innovative culture by formulating policies that hire and retain the best talent.
The recruitment and selection process of Google varies from other organizations. For example, the potential employees will usually meet with four Googlers—some potential teammates and some cross-functional—for about 30 to 45 minutes each. For performance management, Google mainly looks to see if the workers are creative and only those who do would contribute to innovation. Though the managers use 360-degree feedback for performance evaluation and appraisal.
Google has also adopted a framework called OKR which helps the employees to attain organizational and personal goals and objectives.
