Social media is a huge system of technology that facilitates social relations between individuals and large groups around the world, it has expanded and has become an important part of people is daily live, Social media is a double edged sword its have a benefits and effects. This paper will explain an article written by Jessica Brawn “Is Social Media bad for you?”. Brawn talks about how social media affects our social behavior and the traditional way of life. this paper will discuss specifically about four points from the article self-esteem and how it affects our feelings, and how social media isolate the people from their social engagement and will be lonely, social communications leads a lot of depression, and how the social networking sites can reduced the stress level.

Brawn (2018) explained that there is a negative link between the social media users and self-esteem, there is a research in 2016 at Penn State University showed that the self-esteem decreased when the people see the photos and selfies of others and the social media users always compare themselves to others live, and there is another Research by the University Of Strathclyde,Ohio University and University Of low found that specially the women compare themselves to the photos of other women by negative side of comparing. Moreover, Field et al. (2005) stated that in Western media have a negative effect on adults women and young girls about themselves, there is a survey in America include 500 adolescents girls their age between 9 to 16, about 70% seeing that the pictures on magazine is the perfect and the ideal body shape, 47% of them wanted to lose weight to be like the picture (as cited in Clay, Vignoles, and Dittmar, 2005 ).

There is a Study Published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine made a survey on 7,000 people they are from 19 to 32 years old, it found that the people who usually use the social media most of the time they will suffer of lack of social interaction and isolation from the people (Brawn, 2018). Moreover, Murphy (2010) stated that Mental Health Foundation of United Kingdom emphasize that 60 % of adults their age from 18 to 34 accepted to be lonely regardless of having all the applications of social media and they have the ability to run it (as cited in Bashir, Bhat, 2017).

Social media like Facebook, Twitter became the most popular sites specially among students for example: Facebook exceed 1,59 billion registered users accounts and Twitter has 316 million users per month, All these publicity of Social media lead to the decrease of social engagement and communication activities like talking on the phon, face to face interaction, sending letters. The Social media affected the natural way of life (Ahmad, Hussain, and Munir, 2018). A research in Us in 2010 about Facebook explain that it affects physical and social performance, the research showed that social involvement of 1,605 participants, 39% of them qualified as a Facebook addicts, 57% of women their age from 18-34 preferred Facebook more than face to face interactions and 21% recognize that they usually open Facebook at Midnight (as cited in Toma, 2018).

Brawn (2018) stated in her paper a two studies include more than 700 students having depression mood an feeling despair and worthlessness, all of these feelings because of online interactions. likewise, There is a Study by University of Peshawar and University of Swat include 200 respondents divided into 123 male and 77 female from Social and Physical Science departments, this study discuss the link between the Social media and depression, then the result is 53% of the respondents are used Social media for one or three hours per day, 29% use Social media sites like Facebook and Twitter for 6 hours per day and 17,5 % of the respondents spend more than six hour per day on the Social media, These results explain that the undergraduate students spend most of the time on Social media which lead to decrease their activities like playing sports,reading books (Ahmad, Hussain, and Munir, 2018 ).

Social media now is a important part of daily life to share and write posts about everything happened in the world, In 2015 there is a Research at The Pew Research Center based in Washington DC found that the social media decrease the level of stress more than increase it (Brawn, 2018 ). However, There is a research discuss the link between social media and stress, include 111 students undergraduate, 7 of them left the experience and the other participants submit to physical test about hormones, blood pressure, after surfing their Facebook accounts or reading online magazines for 20 mins with psychologist seeing their body language and analyze it, 72 of them checked their Facebook accounts and 32 seeing online magazines. Then the result of this experience showed that 50% of the students who read magazines had no turn in their level of stress, 43% the stress level of them decreased and Facebook users found that 40.3% had no change in the level of stress, 48.6% the level of stress reduced, and finally 11.1% had more stressed (Rus, Tiemensma, 2018 ).

Social network had became uncontrollable in the whole world, and the people must know how to deal with it and how to differentiate between the advantages and disadvantages of it. this paper explained the effects of social media and how it impact on our daily life. The Research found that the social media affect negatively on the self-esteem and how it affects on women is body satisfaction, and loneliness is a real impact of using social media, and it has increased the level of depression and affect on social interactions, in the other hand it affect positively on reduced the level of stress while using social media. There is a rapid development and large spread of this institution throughout the world, but there is no awareness about the use of it, should be a big campaigns to get the people more aware about the usage of social media and how it could be danger on their users and in the other side to get more information about the positive side of it and it could be useful to their users.
