States of matter
State the distinguishing properties of
solids, liquids and gases.
Alright, before we delve into properties, lets consider each of these in terms of particles
Now lets distinguish between the properties
Solids hold their shape and volume. May be crystalline, molecules vibrate in a fixed position and are not free to a lot (if any) movement.
Liquids take the shape of the container but hold their volume, pour, molecules can move within the liquid
Gases take the shape and volume of the container, and molecules can move throughout the container
Energy and molecular movement increases as you go from a solid to a liquid to a gas
