We judge other people because of their social status, ethnicity, gender, and way of behavior or their specific worldview. Surely enough, we are also judged by others according to the same criteria. The question arises whether this is a typical model of a human’s behavior, pre-programmed by the very nature or, maybe, some stereotypes and prejudices are just intentionally imposed by the society we live in. I strongly believe that the second statement is true as the main reason we start discriminating other people is that they look, act, think and speak differently. They do not basically belong to the same societal group and we experience some feeling of their segregation or even some kind of absolutely unjustified superiority over them. People are highly prejudiced and most of them do not like to accept differences as it is much more convenient to live in a comfortable world surrounded by people with the same beliefs, colour of skin, social status while showing utmost contempt for people who do not fit in with the same category even though those individuals might be 10 times smarter than you are or have some outstanding talents or achievements you could never dream of.

In many articles that i have read there was a lot of discrimination. One article in particular is “superman and me” written by Alexie is about a indian boy who is separated from other people because he was different. This can relate to today’s society with all the seperation of blacks and whites. The reason that i feel like this is because in everyday life u can see a separation not only for color but also for other reasons such as religion age gender it’s everywhere. People isolate themselves because they feel like if they keep themselves around people who understand then they will be ok. This isnt always the best cases because the people u think u can trust they are the people who actually can hurt u the most. One personal experience that i can give is when i moved from harlem to staten island. When i went to school i was always made fun of because i didn’t have the cool stuff on or i wasn’t in the right class. They put me in a esl class cause i looked spanish and they assumed i didn’t speak english. I stayed in esl for almost 3 years which when my mom showed them paperwork that i spoke english all they did was say sorry and that’s all. I feel like that wasn’t right at all. I have another experience that actually happened almost 2 weeks ago.

So when i was working at my job i work retail a women dropped a whole bin of clothes. I said would u mind picking that up and she said no and as she begins to sit down, her daughter went to help and she began to say “let the cracker pick it up”. I was taught to bite my tongue when people call me names or say things about me. So i said to the women “you know that’s not right she was like what your people did to mine wasn’t either and i began to say that has nothing to do with thismoment if u have a problem with me or people like me take it to the news not act like this”. People in this world who think that they can control this world and make it how they want it are wrong. Why do u think when a president tries to do that there is a uproar and then it becomes a bigger problem. One example is from a movie called 13 directed by Ava DuVernay talks about all the bad things the presidents have done for society. She never talks about the god things they have done for people who are in prison. Some of the reasons that people end back in prison is because they feel like the outside world is to much for them and they feel safer inside. I can understand how they feel cause i don’t even feel safe leaving my house cause anything can happen to u when u step outside so one can call u names or they can say ur in the wrong neighborhood and hurt u cause u are aren’t the same skin color as them.

To sum up, the issue of discrimination still remains unresolved and it might take some time for the contemporary society to understand its significance and negative influences it brings to the development of the mankind. However, if everyone makes a little effort to learn that all people are different and their individual peculiarities make this world more flamboyant and interesting to live in, then the humanity has good chances of developing in the right and promising direction. Let us all be honest and bring the best from our souls in order to ensure bright and happy future for the next generations!.
